I have been on a coupla search committees. Both times they were a source of spiritual and personal growth for me as much as it was in looking for a minister. The ministers I helped to choose made a huge impact on their communities. I belong to the UCC church(United Church of Christ). Our present minister is very active against the war and also went to Iraq with Physicians for socail Responsibility in the '90's to bring meds to kids along with with Kathy Kelly and Burt Sachs, the Holocaust survivor. To read about Voices Of The Wilderness, you can go to
http://www.vitw.org . Laura Flanders interviewed Kathy Kelly just last Sunday. Kathy just got out of prison and the org was fined 20,000 for bringing aid to Iraqis.
At any rate, being on the search committee does take a lot out of you and your church because you will need to take a close look at things like what the mission of your church is all about. This is not always easy because it entails a close examination as to things like your demographics, and what you have done in the past, etc. You may need to help the congregation go through the grief cycle and then convince them to accept your new choice (at least my church is that way because the congregation votes as to whether or not to accept our choice). If you are tired just thinking about it, well you will become invigorated, frustrated, excited, and amazed at the talent out there and what they can bring to you and what you can bring to them.
My 2 cents
