Blast from the Past - You guys remember the NBC movie "V"?

I was thinking about buying the original series, the sequal and the TV series, just to see what I was so enthused about as a kid. I remember it being quite the show. Does anybody own the movies or remember the show?

1. Never missed it! My favorite character was Ham Tyler

played by (drumroll)....Michael Ironside. I don't own any of them, but I would buy them in a heartbeat. The Final Battle was one of my favorites.

They have all of them. I have to just decide whether I want to spend money on them, just for nostalgia.

We'd have the TV on in the back and everyone would be running back and forth to see what happened next. And I had the same idea as you - I think I'll buy it. Very cheesy - I stopped after the first few episodes - it did not age well. Bad dialogue, the 80's hair and wardrobe were distracting - what a disappointment.

I would recommend living with your illusions...

What gave me idea was that I bought the DUNE miniseries too and I still really enjoyed it. I was hoping that V would be just as enjoyable. I guess not huh?

How was that "Dune" thing? I thought it was the original with a director's cut by David Lynch, and almost bought it the other day. Then I saw it was the SciFi Channel miniseries.

It's so damned strange too. That's why I liked it so much. Sting's character is darn creepy too.

It was so futuristic and strange at the time it was made that it transcends time now too. It looks outdated becasue of the effects and stuff, but nothing else is that aged.

Have you seen the original before or read the book? I assume you have.

Wikipedia talks about how it is loosely based on Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here" and has many facist and nazi influences. Fairly appropriate for today's times.

Maybe the Bush Administration is an alien regime.

it was based on "It Can't Happen Here" but the exdidn't want to do Nazi movie, so at the last minute, the producers came up with Alien invasion.

it's campy, but still entertaining. rent it first.

7. I liked that guy who was played the actor who did the Nightmare movies

I think it was Robert Englund

He was actually one of the aliens but he was on the side of the Humans, recognizing just how nasty the aliens were!

17. The original creator, Kenneth Johnson, once said

that he pitched the story to NBC execs like so: a modern day Nazi-like facist regime takes over the world. Only this time, the Nazis are aliens.

He drew heavy parallells between 1930's Europe and his miniseries, also referrencing Sinclair's "It Can't Happen Here". It's a pity he was squeezed out of the project for "V: The Final Battle" and "V: The Series". It really fell apart at that point. The first four hours of V were very good. The last six, not so much.

I also once read where NBC execs wanted a talking car in the television series.
