Oh! I didn't tell you about my math-induced panic attack last week...

Years and years ago, I was diagnosed with a math learning disability. That was the only acedemic problem that I had, and we did end up home-schooling with private tutors which is something that I loved and would not change for anything.

Reading, history, science and music were my passions and strengths. Math gave me nightmares and endless nights of tears when I was in public school. Despite being first in my class in other subjects and exceling in them, I was put into the "remedial track", which meant I was in remedial classes with every subject which caused me to have horrible depression. I was home schooled with private tutors after that, but that is another story

Anyway, My temp agency wanted me to come in to do an Excel test and a few more things so they could judge more of my technical strengths. Little did I know, one of those tests involved math WITHOUT A CALCULATOR. I was in a little testing room, and I had a huge panic attack. I did the easy stuff, but I had to admit to the tester that I could not do the other stuff due to a long-ago diagnosed learning disability. My mind just blocks it. In my professional life, I have never had to do any math that did not involve a calculator or computer of some sort. In college, I managed because my doctors were able to help with making me exempt from certain things due to the disability. The tester said that she totally understood and it was not a problem.

It did make me realize that you never really recover from bad school experiences...God, I thought after all of those years, the pain from that was gone. It wasn't.
