Dismayed by the decline of fast food quality
Used to be you could get a decent cheap burger at any number of fast food places. All my recent visits have uncovered an appalling lack of edibility.

Ate at Dairy Queen tonight. Obviously a nuked burger. You'd think they could at least put the condiments on AFTER the nuking.

Burger King Whoppers had the flavor and texture of cardboard.

My last Mickey D tasted like a dead cow.

Pizza Hut was hardly edible. Had $1 frozen pizza better than that.

KFC original recipe has a disturbing grey color with deformed chicken bonage.

Doesn't anybody give a damn about a fair product anymore? Used to be you could eat cheap and not wish you could vomit your $2 back.

10. I used to work in that plant.
while I was going to university. We produced 60,000 pounds per shift. The quality control was exceptional, the meat was very nice.

It still tasted like shit.

We scooped a box one night for a party. The burgers were cooked on a barbeque and were first class.

So, it's not the ingredients, it's the cooking.

I eat a veggie burrito there at least once a week. And I won't even go to most fast food restaurants, let alone eat their crap.

The exceptions are:

Chipotle
Ivar's
Burger Master
The XXX (I think there's only one left in the country)

And sometimes:

Subway
Kidd Valley

16. My last Mcdonalds meal.....
I had a small muffin on the way to work that day at 4:30am. I decided to go to McDonalds for lunch at noon after a half a day of hard physical work. I was having hunger pains. I was ready to eat. I ordered a double quarter pounder/cheese combo. I used the drive through because I only had 30 minutes.
I ate two bites of the burger and six or seven fries. The burger was dry as a bone but warmish, the fries were past their prime and soggy. On a side note, the soda was acceptable. I will never go back. It used to be that people went to McDonalds because they knew what they would get. If thats what I know I will get then I won't get.

Humph. Probably because it was. Dead animals tastes like dead animals to me, and that's why I don't eat it.

Thankfully I am veg, so eating week-old nuked cow carcass and chicken that is "grey" and has "deformed chicken bonage" isn't a problem I have to worry about :) Life is so much better since "the switch"!

51. Part of the blame goes to the ecoli
problem back a few years. Before that a burger could be cooked till it still had some juice left in. Now they have to be cooked 'thoroughly', which means to the consistency of bakelite (taste, too).

Remember when Wendy's calling card was juice dripping down your chin and the number of napkins you'd need. They aren't allowed to do it any more.

65. In the DC area, we have Five Guys
It's a guy and his sons who opened a burger joint, then another, then another. I think they are up to like 50 outlets now, and the burgers are fantastic. They opened one up near my house, and it just doesn't make sense to go to BK or McD's anymore. Also, they put up a chalkboard to tell you where the potatoes for the fries (cajun or regular) came from. Not health food, it'll still croak ya in excess, but it's delicious. And...you can call ahead! And the toppings are free! And you can get a little plastic cup of malt vinegar to go.

Have to agree about Sonic, I love their stuff.

79. I like Culver's up here in Madison WI....
and the Madison-area local chain Michaels makes a killer burger, too...and their cheese curds...w00t!

Wendy's is still OK, though the one on Fish Hatch is marginal, and they often forget to put straws in when you go through the drive-through. We sometimes stop there on the way to Milwaukee or Chicago since it's right off the Beltline, and it's always anyone's guess whether or not the fries will be good, merely edible or overcooked. Very inconsistent quality, the one over by West Towne mall is better.
