I was 40. It's been 5 years now. I still remember the name of the clerk at the market who so flattered me.

At a certain point it feels really stupid. That point was around age 30. At age 46, you just have to take a hard look at the cashier and wonder just how disconnected from reality they are.

This middle-aged clerk at a 7/11 carded me for cigs. I told her I was 49 and she said "You just never know. People try to fake it."
What a TWIT!!

I went back to school at twenty seven after having dropped out for five years, and I got carded then. Four years later I was finishing up law school, and needed to get another student ID and the attendant asked me if I meant for my son or my daughter. (Among other things my hair had started to turn white during those four years.)

Oddly enough, it's the only time I've ever been carded. I've even gone to strip clubs without getting carded.

I was 20 when I got carded and still am 20.

Red Robin cards anyone under 39. I don't count that. I only count the ones where they card 'cause they're not sure you're twenty-one. That hasn't happened in fifteen years. :( B-)

Which would have been fair enough except I was asked for ID in a bar where I'd been drinking without being carded for the previous two years (whilst carrying a fake ID that was never actually required).

23. Never been carded
In England once you look older than about 14 you have no trouble buying cigarettes (legal age 16 - not that I have ever bought any), and once you look over 15-16 you can buy alcohol (legal age 18).

I've bought alcohol in pubs since I was 16 without trouble.

Getting carded over here is more of an insult than a compliment.

I was with a bunch of younger guys and everyone got carded. One other person who is in his early 40s was in the restroom when the waitress first came by, he offered his ID when she brought the drinks but waived it away saying she didn't need to see his.

I was at an economics and analysis conference in Knoxville, TN (woo hoo, huh?) As you can imagine, it's not the most scintilating crowd with which to spend after conference hours. (I used the excuse the first two days, that i needed to revise my presentation, even though it was done for 3 weeks.)

Anyway, i ordered Chinese carry-out and went to get it, and stopped at a gas station to buy a six pack to toss in the hotel room fridge.

The lady carded me! No big deal, but i said "Really?" So, she looks at it and says, "Well, i'm 85. I guess everyone looks too young to buy beer to me!" Kind of cool that she was still working at 85, i guess.

54. My wife was denied purchase recently
She's 28 but looks a LOT younger...she's very dainty and many people are shocked to find out that she's not in high school, but is a 27 year old mother of three (most people guess 19 or so). Anyway, she went into a liquor store last month to pick up some Grey Goose and the clerk refused to sell to her even though she showed her ID. He said she "obviously" wasn't 21 and that the ID was a fake (state issued California DL with holograms and all).

She argued with the guy for a minute, but ended up walking next door and paid $2 more to buy the same thing at the grocery store...where the clerk didn't even give her ID a second glance.

I'm 31 and my ID was last checked a few weeks ago when I bought beer for a party. I quit smoking five years ago, but I was still getting carded for smokes even then (At 26).
