14. Heretic!
Worse than I thought cuz I only listen to sad sad songs. I'm a professional depressive. When I start listening to cheerful, upbeat, fun stufff.... then I must really be depressed.

But worse things happen at sea....

Khash.

19. Did you ever hear of them when you lived in England?
This is a cultural wasteland - with only small things like the Proms (Gorecki 3rd Symphony on late-night prom starting at 10p.m. U.K. time) to keep us marginally sane.

20. Yep.
Every WW2 Allied soldier lived or died listening to them. My old Irish nanny (who could tell horrifying stories of the Blitz) could sing all of their songs. Said they kept her sane in those years - when fear and loss were all she had.

She succeeded in turning me on to the Andrews Sisters, but failed at teaching me Gaelic.

But I see I'm going to have to take your education in hand.... And I was gonna take you to Beyreuth for our honeymoon - nonstop sex, Wagner, and handcuffs. But now I have to make other plans...Khash as headmaster.

You are a youngster aren't you? I bet you don't even know Kate Smith! Surely you know Vera Lynn?

Khash.

21. I'm just too young it would seem.
I have heard of Kate Smith - I even have an M.P.3 of her singing God Bless America (though where I downloaded it I've no idea).

Of course I know of Dame Vera Lynn.

I'd be more than happy under a headmaster Khash - but nonstop sex, Wagner and handcuffs still appeals more. Is there some way that we could combine them perhaps?

15. you need to check out the Boswell Sisters

they predated the Andrews by a few years, and they were unspeakably hip...for that kind of music, anyway. :)

25. Hey, don't diss the Lennon Sisters
Those gals, unlike nearly 95% of musical acts today, could actually SING. (gasp!!) In fact, they had beautiful voices. Their version of "Carolina Moon" could bring you to tears.

Save your ire for two undisputed Lawrence Welk goofs with no discernible talent whatsoever: Ken Delo and Tom Netherton.

26. Hey - you are enraged, aren't you?
I remember having to watch Lawrence Welk and hating every minute of that show. Ychhhh.
The bright spot was the Lennon Sisters - but the thought of them brings back the rest of that hour.
:silly:

27. I was forced to watch it too : (
Every Saturday night was "Grandma night". Grandma loved the Lawrence Welk show, so that's what we watched.

It wasn't too bad in parts. The "lovaly uh-Lennon uh-Sisters" were always good, and even as a little kid I thought Anacani was pretty hot. But I wanted to throw a brick through the TV screen whenever those jackasses Ken Delo and Tom Netherton were on.
