My grandfather was a big fan, you didn't get between him and the tv when that show was on.

2. Here's a little factoid about "Gunsmoke"...

Leo Strauss, the father of the neo-conservative movement in this country, loved "Gunsmoke." Black hats, white hats, no moral ambiguity. He hated to miss it.... He thought it was just the sort of morality play that the masses needed to understand right and wrong, good and evil....

In terms of how The West was treated; very realistic for it's time. It really was the first "adult" Western on Radio..

James Arness, who plays Matt Dillon, was the monster in the 50s horror flick 'The Thing'. And his brother is Peter Graves, who starred in Mission Impossible.
