While we are talking about fashion, what's the deal with John Deere?

Around here, it's become the hugest fad to wear anything with John Deere on it. You see teen girls with JD baby-doll tee's, JD jackets, JD baseball caps. And guys in JD tees and hats.

Is the "down on the farm" look popular in your area?

1. I've seen JD stuff in stores around here, those ugly ass trucker hats
shirts, all that stuff.

And may I just say, that bag/purse is the most hideous thing I have ever seen. :o

I wonder if he still has his elf costume, which he had to wear as an attendant at a club social here, back when he was like 16.

I could tell stories that would make Napoleon Dynamite look cool. :D

16. John Deere is where it's at
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 12:41 PM by Debi
At least here in Waterloo, Iowa!

John Deere's inside job

WATERLOO - John Deere's $127 million redevelopment of its downtown Westfield Avenue and East Donald Street facilities, while largely outside the public eye, is more than half completed, company officials said.

Just like a home remodeler putting the final touches on the project, the final exterior touches over the next couple of years will be when the general public really sits up and takes notice, local Deere officials said.

"We're about two-thirds of the way through our redevelopment plan," said Andy Hansen, Deere's manager of redevelopment at the Westfield Avenue site. "We've got a couple of years yet to go. 2005 is going to be a watershed year. Lots of activity is coming up this year. I wish more of it was visible to the public.

"This year we're going to move 200 machine tools — last year we moved about 120 — and we've got a whole new heat-treat shop that'll be put into full production in an air-tempered building with the latest heat-treat technology. So it's going to be an incredibly exciting year."

Oh, that's not what you meant :eyes:

P.S. Deere has tons of Union people (UAW) not just corporate honchos, so you may not like the fashions, you might just like the folks!

28. My brother was a John Deere mechanic for 20 years...
I do love John Deere as an agri equipment business.

However, Mississippi is a right-to-work state, so there was no union for my brother. :(

They've asked him to come back, but he refuses.

You are right that the people there are good people. The office at JD gave my brother an 800 number so that I could call it if my car broke down on my commute to work. Good people, you're right!

and every year it gets worse and worse.

Deere isn't what it used to be in the 1980's but the UAW keeps fighting the good fight.

18. I've never been able to understand why folks want to be walking
advertisements for corporations in the first place. I mean, if they pay you to wear the sandwich boards, that is one thing. But heck, wearing the logoss is paying the corporations to do free advertisements.

I mean, what sense is that?

It's just so goofy freaky to me that something as "uncool" as tractors is now cool.

There's even a John Deere green and yellow jeep here, owned by some teenager. It's always parked at Walmart. I'll try to get a snapshot of it and post it soon.

23. Those have been around for a while....
Back then most people who had stuff like that tended to be afficianados of John Deere, people who worked for dealerships, and collectors. Most of them tended to live in rural areas.

I know a father of a friend from school who had his entire basement decked out with John Deere Stuff, everything from signage to miniature tractors and implements.
