Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" Series on Travel Channel
It's my fav new show. Quite unusual and funny. He gets drunk a LOT and smokes too much, but that's part of the fun. And he's going to unusual places like Vietnam and Malaya in addition to the expected stops in Paris etc.

Anyone else watching? Mondays @ 10pm.

7. "Maybe the pig will receive more dignity in death than he got
in life". No spoiler from me, but that was a funny, funny moment.

17. I think of that at random points during the day and bust out laughing.
We started calling our big chubby cat "Squeezle".

2. He wrote a book called Kitchen Confidential a few years ago.
It was a pretty good book - I like the guy, I'm going to try to catch his show.

4. Kitchen Confidential is being made into a series (not starring Tony
Bourdain, BTW — someone else is playing him) starting this fall on Fox. The producer is Darren Star, who did "Sex and the City."

11. I agree.
The character's name is being changed to "Jack Bourdain" BTW. Like we can't figure out who that's supposed to be?

6. I liked his previous show "A Cook's Tour" as well.
Did I mention that his smoking really bothers me? I guess I'll just have to live with it.

10. That's nothing compared to the heroin he's doing between takes.
Come on. You KNOW he doesn't limit his vices to smoking and drinking.

12. No, he's not doing heroin any more. He says he's "relatively healthy." NT

13. Here's an early review from someone on the Internet Movie Database:
Way better than expected. Good TV., 25 June 2005
Author: cynmack from United States

I was horrified when I heard of plans to turn Tony Bourdain's excellent book into a TV series. But I just saw a preview and this is pretty good. Not as cool as Tony just being Tony; but a well done show. Not stupid and sitcomy with a laugh track. It's a bit cleaned up from the book, but I do think it keeps the same feel. Not quite as gritty, but good. I laughed out loud more than once. Great supporting cast. How can you go wrong with Xander from Buffy, Harold from Harold and Kumar, Frank Langella and Jamie King? Excellent pairing with Arrested Development, but I'm afraid this show is just a bit too smart for Network TV. Might be more at home on FX. But I loved it.

I can't wait to see it.

I was glad to see Nick Brendon get another good job. He's a wonderful actor.

3. My favorite, too. Great show, great writer, and Tony Bourdain is
the sexiest man alive! I'd follow him anywhere.

16. GOOD NEWS! Was "googling" to find out how many episodes the series
was going to have...and besides 8 more in this series, "No Reservations" has been renewed for a second season!

GOOD ARTICLE (the writer calls Bourdain "a modern swashbuckler"):
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/food/237693_chou24.html

On Food: If you like Bourdain, you gotta try 'No Reservations'

By HSIAO-CHING CHOU
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER FOOD EDITOR

It's love or hate when it comes to Anthony Bourdain, a modern swashbuckler who is willing to subject his palate to the vilest comestibles in the name of adventure. As long as he can chase it with shots of alcohol and a couple of cigarettes, he's golden.

This scenario plays itself out repeatedly in Bourdain's new Travel Channel series, "No Reservations." (Here, Bourdain would say, "Yes, I sold out -- again.") If you don't like shows that start with a disclaimer and features a lanky, chain-smoking, aging chef with a mouth, then you may not appreciate what follows. (That's my disclaimer.)

Already four shows into the first 13-part season (he has been signed for a second), Bourdain has ingested unimaginable local dishes as he has traveled through Iceland, Paris, Vietnam, Malaysia and ... New Jersey, eating as the natives do. The rest of the season will take viewers to China, Peru, New Zealand and Uzbekistan, among other places..

(snipped)

"There is no script at all for what's said on camera," says Bourdain, who just returned from China. "And I ultimately write the voiceovers afterwards, so keeping my 'voice' is no problem.
