Dammit.. I am losing TWO friends...to TEXAS
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 02:08 PM by SoCalDem
Texas will be a little bit "bluer" in a month or so..

The latest one to bail on CA came back from Texas(his family reunion) last month, and her husband said.."Can we please move there?".. She's a born in LA woman, but the prices are right for retired people, so they're off to College Station.. Their house here sold in ONE DAY, so this is NOT a drill ..

2. We need more dems on the front lines!
Come on down y'all! :hi:

Truthfully, there are lots of good dems here. Maybe not so much in College Station, why did they settle there?

5. Tell them to seek out local dems...we have serious backbone.
One thing about TX Dems....we may be fewer in number (than the local GOP), but we are steadfast and certain.

We don't have wishy-washy dems here, can't afford to.
If you are a TX Dem, you have a seriously stiff spine. Remember when the dems left the state so the repubs couldn't make a quorum and ram their agenda down our throats? They threatened to send bounty hunters to collar the dems (not kidding). Tom DeLay, evil bastard, put an APB on their plane. The dems called their bluff and stood their ground. It was great!

We need more dems though, there is strength in numbers.

I bet there are some hardy dems in the College Station area.

Send your friends my warmest welcome.

15. It's really pretty there--drove thru on the way to Crawford.
If you can stand all the A&M propaganda signs, it's a lovely place to visit...

6. That happened to me about a year ago, too.
My best friend in LA sold her house and moved the whole family to College Station (which happens to be my old home town--I went to A&M).

If she can overlook the politics of most in the area, it's really a beautiful place to live.

What made your friend decide on College Station? I lobbied hard for CS with my friend (they have family about 90 miles in various directions, so it's a great central location for them, plus I'm biased).

8. I say we invade Texas ( I hear they have WMD),
rescue all the Dems, and then brick up the state. No trace. Gone.

9. College Station? For God's sake, why THERE?!
I went to school there, and I can't envision ever going back there to live.

But, we need all the blue-leaning folks we can get. But College Station? Wow. :)

10. John is from there, and has family there
and they found a great house for CHEAP (compared to CA).. They each have a pension, John gets SS, and they sold their house here for $$$$$$$$$$$$.. they paid 79K for it, and just sold it for $339K...so they paid cash for their "TX" house, and will get a new car,and bank the rest.. John just turned 75, and Annie is around 62, so they are pretty much set now.. I am happy for them, but I will miss them

11. Well, the university does bring culture every once in a while.
And Houston is right down the road, in case they need a big-city fix. It is a cheap place to live, but I predict they'll be complaining about college kids soon. :)

13. Lyle Lovett said it best.....
You say you’re not from texas
Man as if I couldn’t tell
You think you pull your boots on right
And wear your hat so well

So pardon me my laughter
’cause I sure do understand
Even moses got excited
When he saw the promised land

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

See I was born and raised in texas
And it means so much to me
Though my girl comes from down in georgia
We were up in tennessee

And as we were driving down the highway
She asked me baby what’s so great
How come you’re always going on
About your lone star state

I said that’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

Oh the road it looked so lovely
As she stood there on the side
And she grew smaller in my mirror
As I watched her wave goodbye

Those boys from carolina
They sure enough could sing
But when they came on down to texas
We all showed them how to swing

Now david’s on the radio
And old champ’s still on the guitar
And uncle walt he’s home with heidi
Hiding in her loving arms

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

They’re ok in oklahoma
Up in arkansas they’re fair
But those old folks in missouri
They don’t even know you’re there

But at a dance hall down in texas
That’s the finest place to be
The women they all look beautiful
And their men will buy your beer for free

And they’ll say that’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

So won’t you let me help you mister
Just pull your hat down the way I do
And buy your pants just a little longer
And next time somebody laughs at you

You just tell ’em you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
That’s right you’re not from texas
But texas wants you anyway

14. When I die
I may not go to heaven.
Cause I'm not sure that they let cowboys in.
So, if I don't, just take me back to Texas.
Cause Texas is as close as I've been.

And an aside to the OP-get here as fast as you can.

16. Try THIS song :
BOWLING FOR SOUP LYRICS
"Ohio (Come Back To Texas)"

She said she needed a break
a little time to think
but then she went to Cleveland
with some guy named Leelan
that she met at the bank

There's nothing wrong with Ohio
except the snow and the rain
I really like Drew Carey
and I'd love to see the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame

So when your done doing whatever
and when your thru doing whoever
you know Denton County will be right here waiting for you....

Come back to Texas
Its just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
and forget all about the Lonestar State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
and I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sux north of here anyway

I think I made a mistake
Its not that easy to take
She went to make a deposit
then she cleaned out her closet
Guess I'll sit here and wait

For her to come back home (I'd wish you come back home)
it shouldn't take very long (so long so long)
i bet she misses the sunrise
and misses the fruit flies but i could be wrong

So when your done doing whatever
and when your thru doing whoever
you know Denton County will be right here waiting for you....

Come back to Texas
Its just not the same since you went away
I bet you missed your exit
and drove right on thru the Lone Star State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
and I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sux north of here anyway

Troy Aikmen wants you back
Willie Nelson wants you back
NASA wants you back
and the Bush twins want you back
and Pantera wants you back
and Blue Bell wants you back

I got a premonition
I'm taking a petition
and the whole state's gonna sign

Come back to Texas
Its just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
and forget all about the Lone Star State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
and I've got every slow dance saved

Come back to Texas
Its just not the same since you went away
Before you lose your accent
and forget all about the Lone Star State
There's a seat for you at the rodeo
and I've got every slow dance saved
Besides the Mexican food sux north of here anyway
Besides the Mexican food sux north of here anyway
Besides the Mexican food sux north of here anyway

17. Good call.
Here's another good one.....

Charlie Robison
My Hometown

Well, I had a buddy back in '81,
And we made ourselves a pact.
We were headin' for the new pipeline,
We were never comin' back.
Well we worked 80 hours making time and a half,
But La Grange was too damn hot.
We drove back home at the end of that week
And we spent it all on pot.

Chorus:
So I'll see you in Houston,
If I ever get out that way,
I'll see you in Dallas,
But I wont have long to stay,
If you're ever out west son,
And you're feeling like slowing down,
I'll see you around,
Around my hometown.

Well, I played ball every single fall,
I could run just like the wind.
Went to college like they asked me too
But they didn't ask my friends.
Don't think I seen a single classroom,
But I drank a lot of beer.
My buddies still love to listen to me when I talk about that year.

Chorus:

Now I got myself a little band,
And we're pretty good I guess
But I never learned how to wear my hair,
And I never learned how to dress.
So I'm leaving for the last time honey,
I'm never more to roam.
Gonna pack my bags a little heavy this time gonna head my ass back home.

So I'll see you in Nashville,
If I ever get out that way.
I'll see you in Austin,
But I wont have long to stay,
If you're ever out west son,
And you're feeling like slowin' down.
I'll see you around,
Around my hometown.
I'll see you around,
Around my hometown.
