I took a 530 mile road trip yesterday - price of gas rant -

It cost me $120 for gas in my vehicle. That was bad enough, but it got worse at one gas station I stopped at.

At one station I filled up at said I had purchased 2 gallons more than what the capacity of my tank is, my car wasn't even on empty when I stopped to get gas. When I complained to the person in the store they told me that I was mistaken about the size of my gas tank. I went out and got the manual out of my car and brought it in to show them I wasn't mistaken and their pumps were jacked up. I ended up getting the price of two gallons of gas removed from the bill but they made me call a main office phone number and it took over 20 minutes of time to get it all straightened out.

They also claimed the would have the pumps checked. Sure they will. :eyes:

1. Call the TV news station in whatever town that was

They are always on the lookout for stories like that. If the gas station is doing what you say, the TV news station should be able to replicate it with their own vehicles.

I'll check and see where the closest city was that they get their news from and send the stations word of this place. If nothing else they can make sure the place does have their pumps checked.

It may not sound like much but with gas prices it could add up fast.

3. There should have been a label on the pump you used

indicating when it was last inspected and calibrated. It should also indicate what state agency is responsible for their inspection and accuracy, and it should give an 800 number for that agency for you to call if there are any problems. All gas pumps should have these stickers as required by law.

I will be traveling back through there in a few months. This would be an easy way for me to make sure they carried though on their promise to have the pumps checked.

I wonder how common it is for one to get this far out of whack?

It was one of my fleet vehicles. It has toolboxes and wenches and all kinds of extra heavy accessories on it.

I was suprised it did as well as it did, to be honest.

A flyspeck town off of 281 they had two gas stations and I guess I picked the wrong one. :P

The Ag dept must keep busy in this state, this is the second time I've been referred to them on something I would have thought was unrelated to their department. The previous one was a tourism related issue.
