....here's my two cents:

when blues move to texas, they're just getting swallowed up in a sea of red. having lived in texas for 11 years i can tell you, it ain't going democratic in our lifetimes. sure, there are great people in texas, but they are outnumbered by white trash three to one. and white trash vote republican...nothing will change that.

now even though the dems are outnumbered in texas, because texas is such a huge state there are tons of dems. why don't the dems in texas get together and organize a mass exodus from there where half will go to florida and the other half will go to ohio (the two important states we lost by wafer thin margins). this will do two things to ensure democratic control of the presidency and the congress for years to come. first, it will ensure that the dem presidential candidate will win ohio and florida every year, thus having them win the presidency. also, it will increase the representation in congress for both ohio and florida and shrink texas' representation by about 30%. seems like a win-win to me.

i moved out of texas this year and i'm living abroad. does anyone here know how i need to go about changing my voting registration so that i'm registered in florida?

White trash? That is harsh. There is "white trash" (as you put it) in every state. Texas is just a large state. Texas is a lovely state, and I wish more blues would move there. It would only help the state.

Every day it becomes more polluted, more forests are clear cut to make room for crappy, cookie cutter houses built by assholes like Robert Perry, good people are run over by the business-suckup Supreme Court and legislature, and most of the people who live here now are not from here and don't give a rat's ass about Texas except what's in it for them (in my humble opinion). And half of the native old timers are on the take because they ARE white trash and don't care about Texas either as long as the polluting oil company checks are coming in.

out in the middle of nowhere, should have been pristine. They had a cloud of smog like you wouldn't believe. Mind you, it was coming from the industrial plants in Mexico, but someone told me that those plants were actually selling energy back to the US and were down there to get away from the emission standards. 2. Why would I leave Austin for either FL or OH?

I can think of a lot of other places I'd rather live in this country. Hell, Washington State and Oregon are also places where there aren't huge Democratic majorities statewide. I'd rather live in those climates, rather than FL or OH.

i hate the climate in ohio too. some folks like cold winters, not me. the climate in miami is way better than central texas if you like warm weather year round.

15. Living in Austin Texas is just like...

Having a beautiful sundae made of a HUGE scoop of Pecan Praline ice cream next to a HUGE scoop of Coffee ice cream smothered in Sanders Hot Fudge, nuts, homemade whipped cream and a cherry, surrounded by a 6' wide moat filled with vomit and dogshit.

By the time you've gotten to the sundae, you've lost your appetite, and if you stay in the middle it's kind of a limited diet.

I lived in Houston/Galveston for 10 years. I'd rather have been in Purgatory.

But it's really not all that liberal. It is compared to the rest of TX, and there may be a pretty big concentration of liberal-minded people there...but...

As far as fair pay, and health benefits, public transportation and equal opportunity employment...it's only a little better than the rest of TX.

Especially if Florida or Ohio are the choice destinations out of here. Rednecks are everywhere, and while Texas has it's Bible Belt firmly tightened, there are certainly worse places to be. Personally, I like it here.

And it IS about BBQ and quality of life. One doesn't effect political change by pulling up one's roots and moving to another part of the country. It's far better to be in the belly of the beast and fight the good fight where it needs to be fought than to move to a strange place just because you think you might be a swing vote.

Voting doesn't mean shit anymore. The Republicans have the voting machines, so you could move every goddamn Democrat in the US to Ohio and Florida and it wouldn't mean a thing.

REAL change will come in the communities, at the grassroots level. Running away from the areas that need role models the most smacks of defeatism.
