You know what really pisses me off.....
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 05:08 PM by WeRQ4U
These smug little jerks that work at the high-end retail establishments. I'm talking Saks 5th Ave., Bang & Olephson, etc. When I go into a store that is in the mall, I have every right to just look. I have every right to ask them questions about a product that they sell. And I have every right to their courtesy. SO why is it that simply because I'm not wearing Dulce and Gabbana, I am discounted as a plebian? How does this little sleaze know that I'm not some billionaire slumming it in the downtown mall? How does he know that I'm NOT interested in purchasing something?

Why is it that although HE'S the one working retail, I'm all of a sudden the one who lacks social standing enough to afford his attention. (No offense to those in retail, unless you're also a uppidty jerk salesman). He SHUCKS this crap, he doesn't OWN it.

Last time this happened, I called the little bastard on it. I went to the manager and explained the situation. It really pissed me off and it had happened at least 3 or 4 other times that day. As I was getting off the escalator to head to my car, the little punk comes up to me and apologizes. He did it right in front of a bunch of other people too. It was grand.

God I hope I don't offend any retail workers. I did it myself for quite some time. But this is directed only to those who are smug little assholes who think they're better than their customers simply because they're sell $500 dollar pairs of pants.

3. MArvelous darling....
I went to an "art" store in the mall (oxymoronic reality) and the woman actually told me that the kind of art i might like was at the record store....

I just said well fuck you too.........

4. next time someone does this to you
take them aside, ask them their name. Explain that you were sent by corporate and are a "secret shopper" spying on them to see how they treat customers--and that you just wanted to make sure you get the name spelled correctly for your report.

9. Retail worker here - no offense taken
I just hate anybody who feels they're better than me - whether it's one of my customers or some snotty little prick working at Lord & Taylor's. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not better than anyone else but no one else is better than me, either.

12. That's how I was when I worked retail.
It seemed rather antithetical to do it the other way. If I treat someone like shit, how do I know I didn't just miss a sale?

10. In California, the wealthy do shop in tees and jeans on Rodeo Dr

I know that they still can be discriminatory in their shopping practices, though...

I just think it's interesting that here, the guy in the BMW next to you, could be wearing something completely non descript, and not necessarily designer clothing. This dude would be welcomed w/open arms in a posh boutique in Beverly Hills.

Weird, huh?

17. I have a regular customer like that
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 05:23 PM by skygazer
He looks like a beach bum - loose Hawaiian shirt, nondescript pants, five o'clock shadow and an earring. His usual purchase from my department is 3 or 4 bottles of Dom (used to be Cristal when I carried it) and a couple of bottles of Patron. He has parties on his yacht nearly every weekend (very nice guy - he's invited several employees to them).

Makes you wonder why so many find it so hard to be like him.

26. Wow--that's so nice of him to do...
Too many people look down their noses at people that work in customer service, particularly retail. It's just wrong.

Nice to hear of someone that doesn't think so highly of himself that he has to look down on everyone else...

13. Officious clerks
have got to be the biggest pain in the arse. They take their jobs waaaaay too seriously. Perhaps they need to be reminded they are making close to minimum wage and the next step down for them would be wearing a paper hat and asking if one would like fries with their order.

14. Although I would never do that to someone humbled by minimum wage.
I would just LOVE to do it to one of these chaps. But I always think it would be so mean to call them out in front of everyone. Therefore, I tattle on them to their managers.

19. What a person makes is not a measurement of their worth
Snotty obnoxious people are an irritant no matter what their economic status. The rich have no more right to act superior than the poor, as far as I'm concerned.

23. true
but such an obnoxious insult knocks the smug bastards down a notch without breaking a sweat. Yes, it's not nice, but one would not consider saying something of that nature to them had they not acted like complete jackasses.

15. One of my friends has worked in upscale retail...
And said she encountered some of the snottiest, most miserable people she's ever met in that business. Very bitchy and uppity, and some of them are downright prejudiced...a few would follow a minority shopper around or give them inferior service, if it's someone they didn't like. I've worked in retail in the past, and have seen it too. It's very sad.

20. I was at Neiman Marcus a few years ago...
I was going to get a pair of Prada shoes that I had my eye on for awhile, and this is when I had disposable income...anyway, I was also on my way to whole foods, so I was carrying a canvas grocery bag along with my Marc Jacobs bag. This pissy little retail snot makes the comment "what are you, a bag lady?". I was in shock for a few seconds, but I quickly composed myself and said "Well, you just lost that commission, didn't you?"

Smug little prick.

I bought the shoes at Saks.

24. When I worked retail, I would not even consider being rude.
This guy just had it coming. Since he worked on comission, I was not going to give him my business after that bizarre comment.

You never know who has money. Many multi-millionaires that I have met over the years, look like they live in their car. Now, if only I can get one of them to marry me, I could turn them into great dressers:P.

My friend is Latina, and every time we go shopping, Security follows her because she is Latina. It is so irritating. One time, she turned around to this bitchy blonde salesgirl following her and making comments on items and said "is there something I can help you with?". She complained to management and got the little bitchy blonde salesgirl fired.

25. My Dad always looks run down
He wears shit with plaster or paint on them, whatever his latest project is. He has a long white ponytail (waste of a perfectly good man ponytail on a RWnut) He doesn't go into places like Saks, but has been known to by jewelry for my mother, buy a few thousand dollars worth of appliances at time. Or a couple new computers. He's got a little money to spend, usually. When he gets that treatment he walks out, and tells them they just lost a really good commission. He went into oh, I think it was Nordstrom's looking for a present for my Mom. He was in a hurry, so he straightened out a few preconceived notions about himself,(He wasn't particularly nice) and then got treated very well. I think he deliberately looks worse, the nicer the place is 'cause he's just a working class boy who made good by working hard. Sigh. He'd make such a damn good democrat, that's why I never give up on him.
