3. I work in pest control
and it is hilarious how people freak out if they see one bug a day or two after service-even though we've told them that the chemicals aren't nuclear weapons and they can expect to see insects (such as fleas) for a certain number of days after service because-hello-eggs aren't killed by the spray, only crawling insects!

The other funny one is the person that calls up and wants me, sight unseen, tell them to the penny how much a termite treatment will cost. The cost of the treatment depends on many facts, the major one being the condition of the foundation, which can only be ascertained by visiting the site! But the callers keep insisting-and when I say our fees start around $400, they scream in horror! Apparently they thing a complete termite job should cost $10.95.

Finally, there's the realtors. Most are great, but there are a few who wait until the day of the closing to call us up, demand a termite inspection/estimate which they need in the next 15 minutes.

6. No, there are some very nice people...
Don't get me wrong. Not everyone is dumb or rude. There are some great people who I get on the phone. They get what you're trying to tell them and don't call back 15,000 times trying to manipulate the system to get to talk to someone they ARE NOT TALK TO no matter who they talk to.

12. it generally seems to fall on thursdays for me.
Last week I had someone bust a case of soda, and it went fucking everywhere. Two minutes after I get that cleaned up, another customer broke a bottle of ginger beer, which splashed everywhere and all over me (in my hair, my face... and I hate ginger beer or anything to do with ginger to the point the smell makes me noxious).
:puke:

So, today...doo dooo dooooo....it's THE BEST QUESTION OF THE DAY....(actually two for today)

customer #1 "Do you have any paper plates that are not styrofoam?"

customer #2 "Do you have a red pinot grigio?"

okay, yeah the second one, I guess sounds like I'm a wine snob, I'm really not, I've just been doing this too long, I was very nice to the woman and helped her with what she needed, carefully explaining that as far as I knew there was no such animal as a red pinot grigio, but what she might be looking for is a pinot noir... :hurts:

18. I feel for ya, I was at Register One all day
It seems like people are getting angrier, at least at my store. Every day for the past couple weeks, I've had at least two customers either throw something at me or insult me. :-(

16. I was a travel agent for 10 years and saw and
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 07:00 PM by LibDemAlways
heard it all. A few gems:

A frequent business traveller making a last minute trip from San Francisco to LA called me from on board the plane to complain about his center seat -- the only seat that was available when he booked. He screamed at me and cussed me out, insisting that I change it. I told him the seat map was under "airport control" and I couldn't access it and he'd have to speak with a cabin attendant. He slammed down the airphone in a rage.

A woman who had booked her family on an LA to Miami flight requested a "bullhead" seat - she meant "bulkhead." When I told her the bulkhead rows were reserved for airport check-in she broke down in sobs and said unless I could promise her a "bullhead" she wouldn't go.

A very well-to-do woman pulled up in a nice new Benz. She was buying a ticket to visit her husband on a film set in Phoenix - an hour flight. She bought a 21 day advance ticket for $29.00 each way and then informed me she would be bringing her son who would be sitting on her lap. The child looked to be about 5, so I told her she'd need to buy a separate ticket for him. She had a major meltdown, informing me that no way was she springing for another ticket and she'd just tell the airline he was a really big two year old. The more money a person had, the tighter they were with their travel dollars.

A couple I sent to Spain had their passports stolen when they left them on a train seat. They called me yelling and screaming that I owed them new passports because it was my fault they were stolen. Their excuse was that I had told them to use hotel safes and keep their valuables in fanny packs while out in public, but I had not specifically mentioned not to leave their passports out on a train seat.

When you deal with the public you have to maintain a sense of humor and a realization that many people are simply a pain in the ass.

17. I do!
I'm a receptionist at a car dealership.

First of all, why are you yelling at me!! Don't you realize that I just answer the phone. I'm sorry, if someone's not at their desk, leave a voice mail. I cannot leave my desk and go hunt them down, esp if they're in the bathroom or talking with a customer.

I know that you think the salesperson is here all day just waiting on your call, but they're not. People do have days off. I know you're shocked, shocked! If they're not here, I don't care what your deal is, I don't care who you are, you're not getting their home/cell phone number from me.

Oh, and Saturday afternoon/evening is the busiest time of the week. Don't get pissed at me, because you have a lease turn in, and have to wait for someone to help you. You should have come in that morning or during the week.

And finally, I'm sorry your car broke down Saturday after service is closed. It sucks. That's life. They open again on Monday. Yelling at me, doesn't get your car fixed any sooner. I'm sorry that you didn't really the bazillion signs that said service closes at 3pm on Saturday, and it's now 4 and you want to pick up your car. You can't. They're closed. You now have to wait until 7am on Monday. It's not my fault. (Our service/parts is a completely separate building on another street.)

Don't piss people off who are serving you food! In fact, don't piss anybody off whom you seek help from. Seems like common sense to me.

20. The "I want free stuff" dipshits are the worst
And by "free stuff" I don't mean brochures and samples, either.

Two guys came to the store and asked if they could have the "broken drywall." The service desk called me. Yeah, sure, there's a couple of little scraps of drywall lying on the floor, I'm just gonna pitch them so if they want those, they can have 'em. I had gone up front a half hour or so before, except for little crap it was fairly clean.

Turns out they were looking for full, or nearly full, sheets of drywall with banged-up corners and edges. They didn't find any, so...we watched the security camera after they went to the cashier and started screaming at her that "Jim said we could have this." These fucking assholes went to the tool department, got a hammer, beat the shit out of the edge on twelve sheets of drywall, then loaded it into a cart and expected that we'd just give them the material because it was broken. We gave them a free ride in a city-owned car for shoplifting and destruction of private property.

Now? Don't come to MY store looking for free scraps of drywall. You won't get them.
