Pink Floyd and the Wizard of Oz...?
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 08:38 PM by bliss_eternal
After the concert to end hunger this summer, I noticed quite a few Floyd fans here in the lounge.

On another thread I started, I asked this but no one noticed, so I thought I'd start a thread.

Just curious how many of your Floyd fans are aware of this, and how many have actually tried this yourselves.

Dh and I attempted it,when TCM aired Wizard of Oz a few years ago. Unfortunately we had a power failure in our former apt. :( and didn't get to complete the experiment.

So have you done this? Was it trippy? Did it seem like the film and music were in total synch?

Just in case you have no idea what the hell I am talking about, here's a link to a site that talks about it in dept--even going so far to detail the scenes as they would correspond to the music.

:hi:

On edit--there is also this site, which instructs how to experience this and what you will experience...

1. It works but a reporter for a local paper did it with Metallica and it
worked even better. It is all a matter of wanting it to work.

2. I haven't done it but I hear it's quite amazing. They asked a
member of Pink Floyd about it and he said something like "Somebody had too much time on their hands." lol. Anyways, they have discounted it.

A couple of summers ago, AMC did it on the air, and it worked perfectly...although it has been a couple of decades since I would have enjoyed it in an altered state. I bet it would've been cool though.

Too busy to post much. You know, fighting the good fight and all on the ground in a state starting to turn blue!

17. The Truth, and a really corrupt Repub State party help a whole lot!
As does, unfortunately, dozens of war dead from this region. And we have some bright new faces on the rise for us Dems. It ain't over, but the opera lady is warming up!

It's people like you that make things better for others, and ensure we won't see such insanity occur next time around.

It broke my heart that after everything we went through with Florida, you guys had to experience similiar injustices in Ohio. It's just so wrong and unfair.

So glad to hear of someone taking the fight into their own hands! So awesome!

I enjoyed watching Paul Hacket on Maher last night.

16. I don't know about that...
but I saw a sunrise in the Berkshires once while listening to "Meddle" after tripping all night at a street fair in Pittsfield. They seemed to match up pretty damned well!

13. What I wonder, is how this coincidence was discovered?
Who was sitting at home getting baked,:smoke: listening to Floyd, and just decided to put on the Wizard of Oz?

Only to discover  it was oddly in synch--

Seriously, who did that?

19. The really cool part
is when Dorthy is walking across the top of the fence, the lyrics go something like... "Balanced on the biggest wave, race towards and early grave." Then she falls

21. ..so you've done it? Cool.
When it was shown on TCM it was simulcast in synch with a radio station, for some reason we lost it--never even got to that part.

I was bummed, as it was working prior and it was kinda' cool. A bit eerie, but cool.

24. Yeah at the end, on Darkside you hear a heart thumping
that coincides with Dorthy putting her ear to the Tinmans chest to see if he has a heart beat. That one is freaky. Also Money starts when they set out on the Yellow brick road.

but perhaps everyone had too many special brownies because I don't think we synched it perfectly. It was, however, fun! (how could it NOT be!)

brownies to fully appreciate it. LOL!

What I saw of it, it doesn't seem to be the case, but I still wondered...

a lot of it goes right in sync. Side 2 of the LP starts right when the color part of the movie begins. Brian damage "The Lunatic is On The Grass" plays when The scarecrow is frolicking in the grass. But It's true you can make any album work with any movie if you try.

28. I've done it a few times and it does actually synch up pretty well
The best part is that it changes from B&W to color right as the cash registers in Money start clanging away.

However, when you're stoned enough, most audio and video synch up pretty well!

Actually, one of my faves was watching the old silent Metropolis while listening to Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac back-to-back.
