I get to sleep in tomorrow!
all the way til 8:30!! which is a vast improvement over the 6:15 I've been doing for the past week. It figures when I get the morning session (don't have to work until 3pm) off the guy at the tire place tells me to have my car in by 9am if I want to get it fixed in a timely manner.

1. It sounds like we have the same sort of luck when it comes to sleep.
I hate mornings more than any other person in the world, possibly, and sure as the world, this semester, I have to be in class at 8:10, for algebra, no less. Ugh. I'm still trying to come enjoy the nightlife in the DU Lounge, but I find myself nodding off worse than a junkie. Who am I kidding? I am a junkie: a DU junkie.

2. I actually can't wait til classes begin on the 1st
I will be in a more normal sleep pattern because I won't have to deal with covering pre-season camps. I will have Monday/Friday 8am but that seems like small fries compared to being out of the house by 7am every day

3. I have to go early though, because they actually run out of parking and
this is a small town. It doesn't look like they would with that huge of a parking lot, but they do. People end up having to park in the auditorium for performance artists next door. And the weirdest thing was that this week they had this teacher certificate renewal thingy where all the teachers in this area were herded in for an 8 hour renewal class. One of my teachers even joked when a girl came in just in the nick of time to class. He asked, "Did you decide to abandon your car in the middle of the highway to get here on time?" That's how bad it was. People were parked all the way up to the DMV, which is pretty far away.

Charlotte would have envied us on that day. They normally talk about how their transit system sucks and there is nowhere to park. Actually, they've been talking about it for about 10 years and all that came out of it was about 12 buses and more talk. It's a long story, but Charlotte is so self aggrandizing. The parking situation here just reminded me of how self centered Charlotte is. They could have heavy rain and they act like it's the end of the world. A tornado could level my hometown and they would ignore us as usual.

4. ugh I thought parking was bad on my campus
at least I live right on campus so I don't have to drive to get to class, the university is small enough where I can walk from one end to another in less than 15 minutes. That sounds like pure hell what you have to go through

6. It is. And the books this year seem like they were made of
lead. They are huge and heavy. I thought I was finished with lugging huge and heavy things when I had my surgery 2 years ago.

5. Very few people get enough sleep.
The body heals, the mind works out details, muscles regenerate, organs shut down and also rest, the lungs clear out, etc. . . . .

I have encountered historical references written by folks in the 16th and 17th centuries, which confirm that folks back then went to bed when the sun went down, and awakened when the sun came up. That means they were getting lots of sleep/rest. That is natural.

Electricity and caffeine divert us from such a path.

Unfortunately, our society is such that so many demands are put on us that the natural sleep cycle rarely has a chance to raise it's beautiful head.

7. You are so poetic. I wish I had lots of money. I'd offer you a
bunch to write more on the virtues of sleep. I'm sleepy right now, but feel so deprived because I can't come on DU much during the week any more. I got up at 6:00 this morning and I don't want to miss a minute of the DU Lounge nightlife. I can't help myself. I'm strethced too thin. Your words on sleep sounded like music to my ears.

9. I've been up since 6 AM
And I have to do it again tomorrow. It's working on 2 AM now. Who needs sleep? Tomorrow night, i'll be in bed right after Real Time. I'm leaving for Crawford at 6 AM on Saturday, and I'm driving.
