I reduced my electric bill from $341 to $79.

I shut down the old central air for this house (too big for one person) and put an 8000 BTU window unit in my upstairs bedroom (where I have my desk, computer, entertainment center, bed).

I'm not real smart though, because I should have done it in April.

10. Is that the same thing as an attic fan?

A great big fan sucking air into the house and then out of the top?

I was in a house with one of those for several years. We cracked the windows and had a constant breeze drawn in. It is almost better than air conditioning, at least nine months out of the year.

12. nah, they're kind of different

granted both go in the attic - attic fans (gable or mushroom) exchange the hot attic air from the soffit vents - whole house fans take the air from a big vent in the house/room cieling itself.

14. Terminology problem?

The "attic fan" I am describing is a huge "reverse" fan that draws air up through the whole house and out of the top. It makes air come into the house from the the outside.

That is as simple as I can put it.

bulbs to the energy savers. Turn your computer off at bedtime. We save at least $20 a month doing those two things.

I think it is ridiculous to run them for no reason.
