I agree with you about the problems, but in spite of all that, I love the show. I think that one of the reasons it's so enjoyable is that they don't take themselves too seriously. They're aware of the problems and poke fun at themselves in subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) ways.
I thought that losing Jack O'Neill and having much less of Samantha Carter would ruin the show but I'm still enjoying it. The new cast members are good. I found Valla annoying at first but I'm starting to enjoy that character. And the Ori (spelling?) are turning out to be interesting as the new major villians.
Is anyone watching Stargate Atlantis? The wraith are a little too far-fetched for my tastes but even so I like the show. Dr. McKay is an interesting character. He's sort of an anti-Carter. Sam Carter is usually quite humble about her abilities but usually manages to save the day. Mckay is a full of himself egocentric who, while he does often save the day, has also caused numerous problems, sometimes leading to death and destruction, simply because of his refusal to admit that he might be wrong and that Zalenka might actually know better than him in some cases. I'm starting to think that Zalenka may actually be the better scientist. But I think that we're starting to see the humbling of Rodney McKay. It will be interesting to watch that character develop.
