Anybody else here think that Hershey Bars suddenly suck?
I grew up on Hershey Bars and love Hershey Bars w/Almonds.

Lately they changed their formula. I just wrote to them and complained.

1. If you've ever had chocolate from anywhere in Europe
you wouldn't even classify Hershey's as chocolate. German and Swiss chocolates are especially tasty. It's like the comparison between American beer and European beers... there really is no comparison, the American product just plain sucks.

17. Agreed. I've always thought they sucked.
Probably because I spent some time in England when I was young. You never forget what decent chocolate tastes like.

28. Well alright but it's just that I grew up w/Hershey bars and
they sorta have sentimental value, and that's why they were really my favorite plus it tasted different than the other crap out there.

So now it tastes like the other crap out there.

I wrote to them and thanked them for eliminating my favorite chocolate from existence as it will be much easier to stick to a diet now that the only chocolate I really liked is gone.

I know, there's better stuff around, I know. But it's the principle, see?

12. Tiger Tiger Burning Bright.
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 04:57 PM by BrklynLiberal

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright
In the forest of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And, when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? What the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

- William Blake (1757-1827)

And if so, shouldn't the Chimp bar be white chocolate with crack nibs?

I've cut out most sugar from my diet, so I haven't had a Hershy's with Almonds in awhile. Yeah, I know, they're inferior to European stuff, and it's true. But, it's still good. Or, was :(

I buy dark chocolate covered peanut butter cups that Paul Newman organics makes. They are yummy. You can buy them in a box of 24 for a little of $12.00 from vitaglo.com. They are very very good indeed and they have them that are not dark chocoloate as well.

16. Hershey Bars changed
when they changed the packaging. When they were wrapped in foil with the outer wrapping, they were thicker and more solid. Now that they are in one wrap, they are thinner and mushy.:(

Eat a few of those and plan to spend the next day and a half in thick diapers. They're like a laxative.

20. Good for you
Cheap has been the name of the game in the food industry lately with the cost of commodities going up while consumers have less money to spend. They try to cheapen the product and hope no one notices. Good for you for letting them know that you noticed. I encourage all DUers to complain to companies when the brands that they used to like start selling an inferior product.

36. They responded already.
Here's their response, to my email to them, which was about the quality of their actual candy bars going downhill, not the packaging:

HFC Public Relations <pr@hersheys.com> wrote:

Thank you for contacting The Hershey Company.

Comments from our consumers are important. Hershey wants our products to reach consumers in the best possible condition. Our Marketing Department is constantly evaluating alternative methods of wrapping, molding, and packaging.

The packaging was redesigned based on consumer preference. Consumers surveyed said they would be more likely to consider buying this product after seeing the new package than they were before they saw it.

Reasons for this included:
. Visibility on store shelves and "enhanced product freshness"
. Hershey's milk chocolate with almonds bar is easier to distinguish
from the Hershey's milk chocolate bar with the new graphics
. This is very helpful to our consumers with food allergies
. More tamper evident

Your interest in our company is appreciated.

Of course, we didn't have air conditioning in Texas at that time, so we'd have to lick them off the paper. Then they started adding emulsifiers. Yech.
