And I am not sure that asking the question (in any form of post) results in obtaining accurate information.

In the past, I have observed that there are any number of members for whom not using the ignore list seems to have something to do with righteousness and/or free speech (and who-knows-what -- perhaps they are offended at the idea that someone might ignore them). These members might be expected to be more forward about expressing their opinions than, say, those members who see it as a useful database feature (for filtering out the (more or less) careful trolls, troublemakers, members who post the same sort of thing repeatedly, etc).

Not that I think that a poll would be much more accurate. From what I have read of many polls here, these present a very unlikely picture of the community. And, generally, those who feel most strongly about something should be expected to be the most likely to respond to a thread, vote in a poll, etc.

Personally, I find that a populated ignore list is useful, and when service is restricted, I miss this more than anything. I do, however, use a non-logged-in browser (when warranted) to view all comments in a thread that I am interested in, because one's judgment should be reviewed. But outside of the lounge, I generally see few ignored comments in the threads that I read (which might indicate that those on my ignore list are more likely to create threads than respond to someone else's). Now, mind you, it isn't that I disagree with someone that gets them on my ignore list. After all, they could be right and I could be wrong -- so I need to consider what they have to say -- whether I like it or not, and especially if I don't (at least provided that it isn't one of the usual "lines", which I could make up myself if they didn't already exist).

And, personally, I am content to have members ignore me.
