2. Still entirely over water? |
|
I don't have cable, so don't have the Weather Channel. Hurricanes usually slow down over land. I hope that 184 mph is over water. Either way, it's dreadful.

10. They are saying at landfall it will most likely be at least a cat 4 |
|
Mind you, half of the storm has already hit at landfall, which means the eye hits.

3. camille was 909 mb at landfall with sustained 190 mph wind... |
|
...and a 25 ft storm surge, but also the highest recorded inland tide in American history, with homes 2 miles inland completely covered by water.
Katrina looks like she's in the Camille league-- the most powerful hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland on record-- but headed closer to NOLA than the (then) much less populous Mississippi coast. This is looking very bad.

4. I read last night about a hurricane that was 800+ mb. |
|
I thought it was Camille. It was a high 800 such as 894 or something, but not the 909 you said. If I find it, I'll report back. Bad, either way.

you are possibly thinking of Gilbert at 887 or the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane at 897.
