Our old friend visiting on his move to Tampa from Seattle, freaking out

He's driving a 24 foot rental truck with a car trailer (big thingy that the whole car sits on not one of those 2-wheel gizmos)...was going to just visit for a day or 2 but now we have no idea when he'll be able to get down to FL from here (eastern OK)...M$NBC saying noplace to get gas in N.O. area, yikes! I guess he could try to go east to Nashville then south but the hurricane will be moving up -that- direction in a couple days.

1. he better leave today and go thru nashville then down.

it looks like the storm may track up the ohio river.

2. Leave now for Atlanta NE direction. Mississippi and Tennessee to get

worst flooding.

Don't know what to tell him about gas.

He could always head West up toward Arkansas and then start his trip up again taking the Interstates.

3. if he could camp out at your place until he's behind the storm

that timing might be right for leaving tuesday morning. if he wants to get ahead of the storm i think he could make it fine if he left sooner rather than later.

nashville isn't supposed to get soaked until monday night. we have rain now, but it's nothing. he can then take 24 to chattanooga and 75 the rest of the way down. i'd stay tuned to the weather and take a break outside of chatt, atl, or macon depending on when/if it gets squirrely.

this will take him thru a brief stretch of mountains before chattanooga. definitely stop if the weather gets nasty and wait for good visability, road conditions.

4. He's more than welcome to camp out here as long as necessary!

He just called the truck people a little while ago and they said, basically "no sweat" so he won't be penalized...and have some time for a mini-vacation. :D
It's kind of a good thing for us but can't keep from feeling bad for the folks in SE Louisiana...
