Can gas stored for 4 years still be usable?

But I want to use it if possible; if not safely empty them at a gas station and re-fill. :-(

Was there any stabilizer added to it? Gasoline begins to go bad and form varnishes after only about a month unless you treat it with stabilizer...

6. Some people say it goes flat...

But, I had a generac generator stored (empty) for several years along with 5 gal. of gas in a sealed can that was purchased the summer before and the generator blasted off on the second pull after the prime. I was on a little island that was my remote field camp in the White Sea about 6 miles south of the artic circle and it made me real happy. I'd missed working there the previous season due to bad (windy weather) on the 3 occassions I tried to land.

my motorcycle would probably shut down in utter protest if I tried using old gas. ;)

9. Maybe, I wouldn't claim this to be the rule, and I filled the gas

from a bulk tank at a Russian field station so it might have not been just plain old gas.

11. It sounds as if your gas was stored at low temperatures, too.

Less unwanted chemical reaction would occur.

13. That's what I figured. I recently smelled some old gas... Varnish!

It deteriorates quickly in our hot climate.

it'll smell bad (different than fresh gasoline) because it separates without the afore-mentioned stabiliser.
