I would like to use this thread to compile a list of things to send

to the survivors of Katrina. Often times, in these kinds of situations, there are things that may be overlooked, that these people have need of (fairly routine things)

For families with babies

Baby formula (not the powder - the liquid, since water supplies may be low)
Baby cereal
Diapers and Wipes.

Personal care products

Feminine protection products (tampons, pads, etc)
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Razors and shaving cream


For everyone

Bottled water
Non-perishable food items - that do not need to be cooked.






Is there anything else anyone can think of?

6. this is gonna sound totally absurd, but

candy- especially something that has chocolate in it, as portable, and melt-less as possible. Chocolate has natural "mood-enhancers" in it- and people don't expect something like this,- i'm not speaking as a 'hurricane survivor'- but rather as a person who has been without food and when a local group brought my family a bag of groceries, the most amazing, and beautiful thing in it was a small bag of m&m's-
We cherished them like they were gold, dolled them out like precious gems, and felt SOOO good. Later i was told that the chocolate probably added to our overwhelming 'good mood'- but i think the surprise of something so ....frivilous... helped too.

silly- but along with the 'important stuff- it might help abit.

9. Gift certificates to Target, KMart, etc

and even walmart (some small towns may have no other choices..)

to fast food places (food's food when you're hungry and have no way to cook) Mcdonalds, Wendys , Chilis, etc..

remember...sending stuff relies on UPS, etc and their schedules may be curtailed to affected areas.. the USPS or even general delivery (where they choose a post office and can pick up mail in person) might be easier.. and with gift certificates they can get what they need that day..
