Anyone else feeling depressed?
The war, hurricane Katrina, hatred, poverty, deaths, suffering, gas crisis, cruelty, lies , Freepers, a smirking chimp, Pat Robertson... just TOO much for me

I've felt too bad to post, these past few days :(

Hope & pray everyone escapes Katrina's wrath :(

Best of luck to merh, I'm sorry to hear about her loss :(

After the Great Collapse, you will be one of the few people left who has a parrot. This gives you a tremendous advantage, as this book shows.

I'm personally in a "stop the world, I want to get off" mode. It's the constant destruction of hope. You can't get ahead, you can't get love and you can't leave it alone without living on the streets.

Yap, I'm there.

10. yes, increasingly
over the last 5 years since the SCOTUS handed the country to PNAC. But lately, it's feeling worse. The thing that makes me laugh from time to time is a Tee-Shirt I have that says:

Masquerading as

day after day is
exhausting.

Makes other people laugh, but they don't know it's true.

14. Definitely
I've been watching Katrina all day. My great aunt lives in Mississippi, and was riding it out. My grandmother was supposed to call me if she heard anything, but no news yet. This is my grandfather's only living sibling. She's outside of Jackson, and lives with her granddaughter and great grandson. I'm figuring phones might be out, or they might have left.

Such a change from Saturday, when I spent the whole day at Camp Casey. This is the first time I've been online sinec then, and I'm in the process of getting the pitures uploaded.

30. I was, and I did!
It was hotter than hell, as expected. I drank 8 bottles of water and never had to pee. My friend's son was running food and water to the people at the side of the road, and forgot that HE needed water too. He ended up in the medical tent, getting Ziploc bags of ice put on him. All was well though, and we made it home after driving through major rain and wind (nothing compared to Katrina, of course!).

I am really pissed off ALL the time. At the state of the world, at assholes who drive their gas-guzzling behemoths and then whine about gas prices. 48. Try a different track, direct non-confrontation.
Print up some leaflets saying something like: Thank you for supporting the War In Iraq by driving this massive gas guzzling behemoth.

Sign it: Coalition Provisional Authority and
Iraqi quisling government and
The Iraqi insurgency and Al Qaida

Your dollars make all this possible.

Leave them in the windows. Do not, however tempted, buy a can of spray glue and glue them to the left rear window.

55. I have very little faith in those pills
I think they often mess up people's heads as much as they help. Probably just the way I was brought up - my dad did not even like to take an aspirin (or tylenol). I probably self-medicate with sugar and caffeine and I think I have anger management issues. So it is time for me to clean my glass house. I hope you shake the blues with or without meds.

Katrina Katrina Katrina....

I have family that were hit. I don't know if they are OK... I mean, I'm sure they are. But I've been trying to call and can't get through... (of course I can't).

And I know this is totally selfish... but New Orleans, the French Quarter - all that history that could be lost and can't be restored. I feel guilty even worrying about that...

The only good news I've heard all day is about merh - she and her family are safe. And that's great news even if they have to start over....

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 03:15 AM by BuffyTheFundieSlayer
Not really any depression yet but lots of irritability and agitation lately. It seems that things that normally wouldn't bother me have been, and things that would normally only get me a bit miffed are getting me really pissed. I can't stand my neighborhood, the new person at my weekend job is as bad as the one they recently fired, I'm sick of working 7 days a week, life under Rethuglican/Right-wing domination sucks, GRRRRRRR. :banghead:
It appears from the posts in this thread that I'm not alone in my agony...

64. I am both angry and depressed today.
I am concerned about my fellow citizens on the Gulf Coast. I am worried about the price of gasoline and the general economic repercussions of Katrina. I am worried because we haven't even hit the peak of hurricane season yet this year, and I am really damn angry that the Bush administration won't even acknowledge the possibility of global warming which may be feeding these storms.

And I am incredibly frustrated that in this time of crisis, my country is being led by an ineffectual, amoral nitwit. We need a strong, effective leader to reassure us and to lead us out of this darkness creeping over us and instead we have an egotistical, vindictive, ignorant little boy who has squandered our resources on a Middle Eastern dick swinging contest. It makes me want to scream when I think about it.

I can't even type anymore. I have to stop reading DU for a little bit. This stuff is making me too upset.

65. Yep, depressed...
Went on meds for the first time about two weeks ago. I've always been against crazy meds ever since I got put on Adderal when I was diagnosed with ADD & mild depression (about 10 years ago). Would be in therapy, but I'm unemployed so can't really afford paying to talk to someone. Wife's worried about me, and she's a mess too, bless her heart. But she's still working & actually doing really well in her job, so it's not all doom & gloom.

Hate to see so many others here feeling the same way, but you're all pretty good folks...so just keep on keepin on ;)
