I'm donating to the Red Cross.
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 09:20 AM by BushIsAPooHead
It's only $20, but every little bit helps those poor people in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Any one else planning to donate or have donated?

:hi:

On edit:
Here's the link I used to donate; there are also links on that page to donate by phone or mail. :)

3. Heads up, donors.
The night before last, the web donation application was down ('course it doesn't tell you that until you've filled out all the forms), and there were problems with the automation at the phone number. I'm pretty sure they got it, but I waited ten more minutes before giving up on confirmation.

I hope the difficulties were caused by the sheer volume of donations.

After payday, they are welcome to more.

5. I typically send mine snail mail...
or I slip it under the door.

Sad to say, I've been donating quite often lately.

Bitter-sweet.

4. Why I won't give to the Red Cross
Its CEO and president, Marsha Evans, has a salary approaching a half million $$$$ per year.

I think this is excessive...there are many other worthwhile charities to donate to and I'll choose one of them.

6. Each to their own...
However, when I was a "disaster victim" I sure drank a lot of
Red Cross coffee and ate many Red Cross donuts.

Out of the plethora of aid organizations out there the Red Cross
was one of only a handful who were actually there on the ground.

8. I am with you
Until you have lived someplace where you look forward to hearing the loud speaker of the Red Cross truck announcing its arrival it is difficult to appreciate the great work they do.

After Hurricane Isabel, we had no electric, gas, or phone for a month. We had standing water in the basement for a week and I lived a mile from the Potomac River. It was strange. If you walked to the foot of my street, you could see the Capitol in the distance, but my family was living a third world existence.

All the neighbors would pour out. It was a great time to come together as a community.

The Red Cross gave out Hot Food, Hot Coffee, cleaning supplies ( Bleach, soap, mops, sponges and brooms) advice on cleaning and hygiene when there is no potable water, and most importantly HOPE.

This may sound a little corney but they really were a God send.

I think the Red Cross will set up a dedicated fund for this disaster and the money will go to helping those who are in need.

7. Sure, donate to whatever organization you want.
I'm sure there's plenty good ones out there. Although the Red Cross is one of the most well-known and one people may think of immediately to donate to. :)
