Word users: Does anyone know how to shade everyother row in a table?

I knew how to do it in WordPerfect, but I cannot figure out how to do it in Word. Thanks for any instructions! :)

1. Highlight the rows you want to shade

right click, go to borders & shading, and go to the shading tab. pick your color, set to shade cell, and viola

3. that stinks! Word Perfect had a specific feature for highlighting

every other row so that if you added a row to your table, it would automatically reformat the shaded lines. :(

5. unfortunetly, i dont think word has it

maybe it does and im a dunce. i just do it manually. sorry i couldnt be of more help...

20. after you do the first one, use the format painter.

highlight the row you did, double click the paint brush, and then click to highlight each row you want shaded. It will apply the same formatting as the one you base it on.

(Single clicking the brush will only apply it to the next one you choose, 2-click holds on to it to do it multiple times.)

2. If it was excel you could autoformat it

they have some pre-canned autoformats that will do everyother line

Which isn't really something to be impressed about - just happens to be a skillset I possess like my ability to always be stuck in the lane of traffic that is going the slowest even if I switch to a different lane that I perceive is going faster

6. Do it in excel first, then import it

Excel is much better than word for these things, and there are templates that do just what you are trying to do

10. I think after you highlight one row

you can just select each additional row you want highlighted and do a "CTRL-Y" for "Repeat format row"

Tip #75 - Shading Rows in a Table (Versions 2002 and above)

You can shade every other row in a MS Word table and here are two options to do just that:

Option 1:

Place your cursor anywhere within the table. From the 'Table' menu, select 'Table AutoFormat'. From the list of available styles, select one that shades table rows (such as 'Table Contemporary'). You can click 'Apply' and see how this effects the table. Click 'Ok' to close the Table AutoFormat dialog box.

Option 2:

You can also specify a shading style to either even or odd rows in your table by following these steps:

Place your cursor within the table and from the 'Format' menu, select 'Styles and Formatting'. The Styles and Formatting task pane will appear.

From the task pane, click the 'New Style' button and a New Style dialog box will appear. From the 'Style Type' drop-down list, choose 'Table' and from the 'Apply Formatting To' drop-down list, select 'Odd Row Stripes' or 'Even Row Stripes'.

Click on the 'Format' button and choose 'Borders and Shading'. Select the 'Shading' tab and choose a color from the Fill options. Click 'Ok' to close the Borders and Shading dialog box.

Using the 'New Style' dialog box, you can specify additional formatting options. When you are finished setting these properties, click 'Ok' to close the formatting dialog box.
