I can't imagine making payments on a house, and then having a storm like this destroy everything once the loan is paid off! Looting should be the least of our worries, especially when people with diabetes and other medical problems have no place to go.

This storm has become a terrible nightmare :(

17. You have no idea how nice it is to know that you care....

Central Mississippi got hit really hard but my household was incredibly lucky. In a county where only 10% of the people have electricity, mine never went off. We lost one tile from the roof, a couple of tender plants in the garden and 75 mph winds that, while significant, were not devastating.

My WORST loss was my garden's gorgeous banana patch, which was whipped to hell and back and had to be pruned. Yet, I'm totally surrounded by devastation and misery. Neighbors lost everything yet I have been spared any real suffering myself.

There's heartbreak enough, though, as we watch the most magical city in America sink into a sickening, unliveable stew of chemicals, sewage and gasoline. The reality that New Orleans is just not going to be there will be very, very, very hard to accept....

people are facing as reality. How do you deal with losing everything you own? Your home, your job, even your town...?

Its really hard to comprehend the enormity of the disaster. Its like September 11th only worse. I really fear the final death toll will be 30-40 thousand-10 times that of 9/11.

22. After 10 weeks unable to access DU, and 10 days with NO internet at all

my first stop on-line earlier tonight was DU. I immediately searched my username and the first thread was one where you were concerned about my whereabouts.

sad to hear that it comes with bad news sometimes, but at least they are okay.

I just hope that all is well in her neck of the woods and that she's unable to check in here because the heavy forest thereabouts has resulted in downed power lines and no more...I was already having trouble sleeping tonight, but now I may not sleep at all until I know she's okay. :-(
