British tourists have left the residents of one charming Austrian village effing and blinding by constantly stealing the signs for their oddly-named village.

While British visitors are finding it hilarious, the residents of Fucking are failing to see the funny side, The Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported.

Only one kind of crimimal ever stalks the sleepy 32-house village near Salzburg on the German border -- cheeky British tourists armed with a sense of humour and a screwdriver.

The second sign carries the hilarity even further: "Bitte — nicht so schnell!" is German for "Please — not so fast!" (Evidently this type of sign is a commonplace reminder in those parts for drivers to keep their speed down to protect children, but the unintended double meaning in this case is particularly amusing.)

15. They need to do what the Berlin transit authority did

Lots of tourists used to steal the Berlin subway station signs.

Someone at the BVD had a grain of brain, and decided to whip up a little batch of them and try to sell them. It worked so well they opened a shop in the station at the Zoo (the biggest station in what was West Berlin) that sells all sorts of BVD things, including subway station signs.

If someone started selling these Fucking signs, a lot of tourists would buy them.
