4. I have a great woman Democratic mayor in Athens, GA: Heidi Davsion.

We used to have a two-term Democratic woman Mayor named Gwen O'Looney as well. They are both smart, progressive women. They drive the conservative good old boys crazy! ;)

and still supports:

1) A new 4-lane highway.
2) A new bridge over the river to divert truck traffic from downtown.
3) A new suburban development that will take our population from 8,000 to 10,0000, complete with "power center".
4) A useless ethanol plant

13. I live in a suburb that only has an

advisory board which reports to the County Board of Supervisors. The local yokels are all a bunch of idiots who spend their monthly meetings patting each other on the back and passing watered down ordinances that aren't enforced.

The County Supervisors are a bunch of political hacks who take money from greedy developers bent on building McMansions and strip malls on every inch of open space.

Recently I had a problem with a neighbor who moved his goddamn limosine company into my quiet residential neighborhood. No one at the local or county level was any help at all. The buck stopped nowhere.

Don't even get me started about the local school board. A bunch of morons who think they have lifetime appointments. One old geezer had served for about 30 years and finally got sick and entered a nursing home. Think he would resign? Think again. He was too sick to attend meetings, but he still ran again, and finally died right before the election. His wife even suggested keeping his seat open for four years in his memory!!

It would be a miracle to find a public servant around here interested in serving the public.

14. The mayor here has had some problems of corruption, to put it mildly.

Richard M. Daley makes the trains run on time and all, but man, has there been some sleaze lately.

I think he's been in power for too long, personally. Maybe it's time for a change soon.
