I KNEW it was going to be a long day today. The retailer I work for sent out a mailer announcing that we would be having a Labor Day sale beginning on Friday, and running for 5 days. We KNEW it was going to be a busy holiday weekend for us.
BUT, this afternoon, just as I was getting ready to clock out for the day, a woman comes in with the flier and wants me to start the sale early for her because "It is going to be too inconvenient for her to come into the store during the five day sale."
I politely explained that the sale begins on Friday, and runs for a full five days, but I would ask our General Manager (I'm the assistant manager) if she would honor the sale early just for her. You have to be VERY careful of this sort of stuff. If you do it for one person, you have to do it for everyone. My GM said that yes, she would honor it early for her and when I told the lady we WOULD let her have the sale prices early, she said to me; "I can? Wow! People in power! I guess I know to talk to HER from now on and I don't ever need to talk to you again!"
*KABLAM!!* Clintmax was PISSED! I just instructed the associate on how to ring the sale, clocked out and left the store. I get sale fliers all the time from stores and it has NEVER occurred to me to go and ask them to start the sale early for me! I know I shouldn't let something like this bother me so much, but today it does. I firmly believe people should have to work in a retail store for no less than one year so they can see what it's like to be treated like a peon.
*WHEW!* Thanks for letting me vent for a minute!
