7. I'm not picky. They can go wherever they want.

I always wash the counter I'm working at if I'm preparing food anyway, and they don't get up there while I'm working.

It works out fine. I just keep a bottle of cleaner under the sink and when I'm ready to prepare food or some such, I spray down the counter, wipe it up with a clean sponge and dry it off . . . and off I go.

Why fight with the cat if it only takes 30 seconds to make the counter sanitary?

22. This is what I do as well.

Little bit of bleach in water with a soap agent, wipe down, let dry. It's pretty much moot, since whenever I make anything, I do it on a butcher block, which they can't get to.

15. OMG!!! Poor kitty!!! And I have an electric stove.

I know cooks prefer gas, and I like to cook, but actual fire and gas scares me to death!!! As for the cat, he's totally incorrigible. I mean, he's 14! If he hasn't figured out that getting on the stove when it's turned on produces that scorched-tail smell, what hope is there?! But, to be fair to him, he's very spoiled and is watched like a hawk...:-)

17. I agree with this, as well. Not on the kitchen counter, ever, since I am

not a big fan of cat hair in food. As for the table, a lot more goes on there than eating, so I'm not so fussy. But hair and food is a huge negative for me, human or pet. But when it comes to my guys, cats or dogs, I have few rules. I'm a liberal and I hate rules, so sure don't inflict them on my pets, except when it comes to food, theirs or mine, LOL!:D

No matter how much she screams. But I've given up trying to keep her fron the bathroom sink; that's her spot!

The reality of cats is that the second you are out of the room or gone to work they ARE driven to walk on the table and counter. It is what cats DO.

One time we were on a trip and my husband ordered coffee. It came and he looked in the cup with a REALLY puzzled expression. I asked what was up--thinking the coffee was bad somehow. Hubby, with a totally deadpan expression looks at me and says, "I didn't recognize it as coffee--there was no cat hair floating in it."

At that time we lived with three cats and there was NO refuge from the cat hair. Now we are down to just one, and he can barely recognize his coffee.

We usually eat downstairs in the rec room. Of all the things I have been able to accomplish in my life one of the my most proudest achievements is breaking my wife from "Dinner time " ( I eat when I am hungry) and the dreaded "What do you want to do for dinner?" I HATE that.

23. We're pretty strict about the counters

Not for sanitary reasons but because I'm afraid one will wander onto the smooth-top range while it's still hot. But the dining-room table is fair game--one of ours thinks she's a centerpiece.

24. To prevent that problem with the smooth top range,

I put an upside down baking sheet over the burners until it cools down.

That way, if they do get on the stove accidentally, at worst they'll get hot toes, not 3rd degree burns. :).

After it cools, I just slip the baking sheet back between the cupboards and refrigerator where it stays until I need it again.

It's purely a safety precaution :)

Technically he's not allowed on the counters or the table.

But judging by the paw prints on both when I come home from work he doesn't strictly adhere to that rule when we're not home.

That's okay, he's the cutest thing I've ever seen and I love him more than almost anything so I forgive him just about anything.
