I have a bunch of clothing I am going to donate, I wonder if it can get |
|
to the hurricane victims.
Anyone see any sites that accept clothing donations for the victims?

1. During past emergencies |
|
the Red Cross and others have asked people not to donate clothing. Maybe you could sell your clothing at a yard sale and donate the money?

I would think that people who lost everything would need some clothes.

Is that they don't have the manpower or resources to sort through the clothes, package them, and get them to the victims. Cash is easier to deal with and more versatile...ie. cutting people checks, etc.

And good way to channel that helpful impulse. I'm holding back on donating cash until my company gets its matching program going like they did for the tsunami.. that way I can make it count double, but it's hard not to just do it right away.

5. They don't let us have sales here unless it is a block thing, really |
|
I am at a condo. I will look around. Maybe Salvation Army allows earmarked clothing or something.

15. Try a women's shelter. |
|
I think they are usually in need of clothes.
If you have a hard time finding the contact info for one, you might seek out a non-psycho-right-wing church. One of those would probably do a good job of ensuring the clothes finds folks in need.

7. that is a beautiful gesture on your part, really |

8. From what I am reading, it is hard to separate all the clothing for |
|
disasters. Most of the relief sites are saying that. I just cleaned my closet this weekend and have boxes of stuff I was going to give the missing children's center, but thought the hurricane victims might need it.
I guess logistics make it hard.

11. Cash rather than goods. |
|
Give cash, give blood, volunteer with a relief agency.
Goods just cause logistic problems and incur costs.

Shamed. Nice clothes that are just a tad too big now.

13. I bet there's a shelter in your area that would love the clothes. |
|
Just an idea - you'll know that a person in need is wearing your gift.

16. Yeah, there is a missing children's charity I was going to give it to |
|
I will give it to them, after all, since they can't give clothes to the storm victims.

18. Yeah, I will look for a couple of weeks to see if anyone starts |
|
taking donations for the storm. If they don't, I will give to the children's center.
