Poll question: Where Do You Find Hope?
I'm needing hope right now, not as much as the hurricane victims, but I still need it.

2. I make my own hope.
I pause, take a breath, realize all the other ills in the world that are much worse than my current situation, and then I press on. I'm a pretty unflappable person, so your milage may vary.

5. I usually look for what's dashing my hope.
Not 'hopes', which are a different sort of critter.

Usually I find that the pessimism is rooted in a lack of knowledge of the facts, or not understanding the facts.

Or, conversely, I find that I have much too long a view of things, and that's the hardest pessimism to fight off. In a 1000 years I'll be dead and forgotten, most people alive today will be dead and forgotten; in 1 million years, little will be left of human civilization as we know it.

Then I look at my 20 month old toddler, and realize I'll be damned lucky to survive him and his antics for another month.

9. All of the above.
Actually, my best sources of hope come in visits to elderly members of our congregation. In their years, they've accumulated much wisdom, and have a great deal to share.

Our world tells the elderly that we don't want them - but we sure do NEED them.
