I HATE Bank of America
My bank (Fleet) got bought out by them a couple months ago and now they handle checking and savings.

I have a speed pass for the tolls which automatically makes a withdrawl from my checking. I didn't have enough funds to cover it for the past 3 days - the pass account has a "buffer" so it withdraws before you have no funds.

I went online and see that the pass tried to withdraw the past 3 days. The transactions were turned down, but the bank charged me 3 $31.00 overdraft fees! Nothing was taken out!

I am on hold with the bastards now. I keep telling myself I'm gonna change banks to my credit union, they now have online bill paying. I am doing it this month.

3. I am a member of a credit union in Lynn
as long as a live in Essex County, I can stay. I would love to be in Mrs Matcom, her bank that is, but they usually have local branches, so face to face banking can be a problem.

2. I'm having the same fight with JPMorgan Chase
They've charged us over $500 in fees in August. We're on a shoestring in the best of times, and this actually puts us closer to bankruptcy than we've ever been. We're moving our account to the s.o.'s credit union as soon as we have the logistics of the move straightened out.

Good luck!

5. Here's what they did to my wife and I, CHRISTMAS WEEK 2003
The long and short of it is, my wife had an account in her name only with a "Platinum" Visa debit card, while the joint account we had only had a "Gold" card. One of the differences between the two is that with the Platinum card you could deposit a check at an ATM for up to $500 and have immediate access to the funds. With Gold, you were limited to about $100.

At least half a dozen times before, we had taken my paychecks from my job and deposited them into her Platinum account at an ATM and withdrew the money on the spot or went home and immediately transferred the money from that account to our joint one and never had a problem. However, this particular time some asshole at the processing center noticed that the name on my paycheck didn't exactly match the name on my wife's account EVEN THOUGH it was properly endorsed by both of us.

SO... with no warning at all, B of A removed the money from our joint account, causing several transactions to become immediately NSF and put a $30+ fee on each, AND they charged against her personal account causing THAT one to go NSF. One of these was our rent check, which we were expecting to bounce. B of A told us on the phone, in so many words, that they didn't give a shit about our impending disaster, and all we could do was sit and wait for the returned check to show up in our mailbox. You should have heard us both screaming over the phone. It was scary.

The check showed up the day after we found out about the problem. We took it into a branch the moment it opened, deposited the money into the joint account and caught the clearing of the rent check by a matter of hours. Had we not done so, we would have been responsible for a $50 fee to the apartment people for a bad check, but upon hearing our story they said that they would waive the late fees which would have been well over $100 more by then.

Within a month, we were no longer banking with B of A. F**k them!

6. That's terrible ...
Another nice "feature" is that a have a car loan with another bank. BofA takes 5 business days to get them the money. It's faster for me to mail a check to them. In-fucking-credible.

Im switching to my credit union.

8. thaey gave my checking acct # and a fresh order of checks
to ID thieves. They also changed the address and phone # on my acct. Then they stood by and let all this highly unusual activity go on in my acct.

They suck hard

9. Hmmm....I've had most of the problems
you're describing with OTHER banks (Arvest, Regions). We got an account with Bank of America when no one else would let us have one....long story...they've been great to us!

We ordered a credit report and the company tried to charge us 3 separate times for it, amounting to like $300; they stopped our account, called us, verified what was going on and returned all the funds THE SAME DAY. They put a complete stop to the screw over that was about to take place. It was wonderful.

Anyway, we've been with them ever since. I won't say they are the best, but they're not the worst around here either. I have issues with the fees on a savings account w/ them, but that tends to be it.

10. Don't use their savings accounts
They punish you with more and more fees as time goes on. Even once you get above the minimum, they charge you based on an average balance if it's below the minumum, and so you get shafted in so many ways. It seems to run counter to the reason people have savings - to earn interest. Instead, I was being drained with punitive fees and had limits on how many transfers I could make to checking. I usually kept my $500 minimum in there, but damn if money kept being siphoned off a few dollars a month.

BoA is MORE EVIL than MOST banks. Period. A friend who has worked for several banks including them says BoA is the WORST about account holders' privacy.

They started charging me $3.70 a month for "insurance" I didn't even request, because I didn't notice a junk flyer in the statement about it - if theft occurred with my debit card, this insurance would get it to me the next day. THEY ARE ALREADY SUPPOSED TO DO THAT. :argh:

I finally severed my accounts with them, way past the time I should have. WHAT A RELIEF. They suck the biggest ass of any bank I know.

An account with a smaller regional bank or credit union is what you should try in a while when you get on solid ground again. If the smaller bank gets taken over by a larger one, be careful.

11. I used to work for Bank of Corruptia
It was trictly for survival. They have a $100 dollar bounty for employees to think up ways to make more money. Meaning fees. So the kiss-ass cube rats were coming up with ideas for all sorts of charges.

Also, nepotism and cronyism ruled. Good workers were given the sack when someone's kid needed a free pay check. The rest of us lowly proles had to pick up their slack. They were also put on the fast track into management, straight out of high school with only a week or two of fastfood work experience. And naturally more money and benefits (they bragged about it).

I await their collapse.
