Car people - Need advice
I walked outside this morning to take the kids to school because we overslept and they missed the bus. My car was crooked in the driveway. I know I didn't park it like that. Upon further investigation, I discovered that someone, in the middle of the night, took the curve in the trailer park too fast, scraped the back of my neighbor's car, came across my driveway, and hit my ar hard enough to move it. Amazingly enough, there are only three scratches visible, no dents. However, when I drove it, the steering wheel is jigging to the left when I'm going straight. I'm thinking it's out of alignment.

Is there anything else that I'm not thinking of that could have been damaged? My husband is out of town until tomorrow, and I don't know much about this sort of thing.

The car is a Corolla, automatic transmission.

1. Did it get hit near the front tire, or the rear tire?

5. Then I suspect your left rear suspension was knocked out of alignment.
Certainly not as bad as if the front was damaged, since your car is front wheel drive, but still.

It could be out of alignment because something got bent, or maybe broke.

Doncha hate it when people do that kinda stuff?

7. That's what I'm thinking
I want to be sure that there's nothing else going on, I just don't know what to look for.

I will involve my insurance if I have to, of course. I did have the cops come out, just so I'd have a report if the insurance company needs one, since it is a hit and run. The cop said that it's not reportable unless I have $1000 in damage. He left me a form I can send in if my damage exceeds that amount. He also told me that if I send the form in, it will go as an accident on my driving record :wtf: even though where it says "Driver" I'm supposed to put "legally parked".

2. Look under the bumpers,
There are crush posts under the bumper that collapse when struck. Many people don't realize the damage until later.

4. It could only need a wheel alignment
or a tire balancing. (is that what you call it in english?)

6. I called a dealership and asked them how much they want to look at it
They want $85 to check it out...ouch! I'm guessing alignment, but I want to make sure that I'm not missing anything else.

8. Don't move it until the claims adjuster and police come!
The car may need to be dusted down or paint samples taken from the impact, and you may void your claim if you do anything to the car, even just moving it!

9. I didn't move it until after the cops came out
I did take it for a small drive, just trying to see what was what (which is how I know it's jigging to the left!)

10. Here are a couple of the pics

I also got pics of the tire marks, which the cops said likely belonged to a truck, my neighbor's car that was also hit, the angle of my car in the driveway, etc.
