Wireless Internet
So,

I just received my new laptop today that has wireless capability. I turn the succker on in my living room to go through the WinXP setup. After I did that, Lo! And Behold!

There are no less than 6 wireless networks in the vicinity, would you like to connect?

Sure! Why the hell not!

6. I'd say that...

Only if my internet connection suffered no ill effects. Unfortunately, I've heard that pirates hopping onto other peoples' LAN-connections bog down the internet they're shelling out money for...

I'm generous, but not that generous.

EDIT: I didn't mean "pirates" in a harsh manner...X_X sorry if I offended. I can't think of a better word, it's been a crappy week for everybody.

3. Mac is better. ;-)
That aside, if people are broadcasting their network I guess it's there to use.

7. There's a strong unsecured wireless network from a business
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 09:12 PM by Misunderestimator
in my neighborhood. When I moved here, I was able to connect to it while I waited for my broadband to be hooked up. Amazing how many people have unsecured networks. My next-door neighbor in FL had an unsecured one too.

8. There's at least three in my new building (including mine)
I plugged in and three networks were in range right away-- two were unsecured.

If you don't mind people stealing your bandwidth, you can just leave it as it is. However, you'll probably want to secure your wireless network to keep the creeps out.

9. It's legal now, but probably won't be for long
plus, your performance will probably suck, and you'll be dependent on others turning their modems off and on as some do.

And it's unethical. But if you're just gonna hop on now and then, eh, can't say I haven't done that :D

10. I set up a wireless network in our apt...
so Greekspeak could access the internet on his laptop. If I ever found someone else using my bandwidth like that, I'd shut them down so fast their head would spin! I pay $42.00 a month for broadband and it is NOT for everyone's use in this complex!
