OK, I think my sister has completely lost her mind!
She sent me an e-mail telling me that the rapture is coming in just a few days and she begged me to go to church so I can go up into the clouds with her and jeebus. I also found out she told my little brother that he was going to be one of those left behind and she told him not to get one of "those marks".

I think she's getting this from the church she goes to (don't ask me which one it is cause I have NO idea), and they're filling her head with these crazy ideas.

I fired a e-mail back to her blasting her for preaching to me. I can't STAND that shit!

She has SIX! That's her role in life, I think. Have kids. As far as getting her help, I told her in the reply e-mail to go see a psychiatrist. She won't though.

Are any of them old enough to get help via 9-1-1 or a neighbor if things started going "last-days" in that house?

But the truth is, that is just too sad. I hope she gets out of that state of mind. If not for her, but for the little ones.
You have to show her that the rapture has been "coming" for thousands of years. In 1800 they said it, in 1900 they said it..and so on. I think she might need some help. The kids don't need that shit in their lives.
Good luck.

20. Well, what I told her is that there IS no such thing as the rapture...
and even if there were, the bible says that Christ would return in a thousand years. OK...Christ died in around 30 C.E. That would mean that the rapture occurred in 1030 or 1031 C.E. Since we are now 975 years PAST that, we can safely say it has already happened!

21. You should never let reality get in the way of a good story.
Interestingly the notion of the Rapture was only dreamed up in the 19th century, also the wacko idea that the world dates from 6000 years ago comes from the 17th century - none of this nonsense has a long history (hopefully it will all be forgotten about pretty quickly too).

23. The belief system covers everything
and while some of us are searching for rational explanations they have a method of interpreting all tragedies in relation to their beliefs. And of course they always come out smelling like a rosebush and the rest of us are going to burn in hell.

My sister and her whole family are like that and I can't stand it. I am a christian but I don't buy into that baloney, so my beliefs about justice as a central Christian value are worthless.

Sigh. I had a very close friend who got into a cult after college. She alienated me for 8 years and one day she called me up to tell me that she had made a mistake and asked for my forgiveness. She said she still believed in God, but she had realized that the true nature of God was INCLUSIVE.

It was one of the most powerful religious insights I've ever heard.

30. Then I guess it's just a matter of hoping and praying
that something will happen to make her see sense - it may take months or years, IF it ever happens. She sounds like she's beyond help, but miracles CAN happen - just be there to catch her when she falls.

http://www.raptureready.com/

In all seriousness, I too am just fed up with these brainwashed, non-thinking, mentally ill people. Your sister needs help. If you are sick and tired of her, at least talk to the 17 or 18 year old child and get the rest out of that family until some heavy doses of reality are given to your sister and her husband. Bad things happen to young children whose parents think the end is near.

Whatever you do or say, do it carefully.

For the record, however, I was once 100% convinced that the world was about to end. It didn't, and I slowly began to feel better. I didn't have a "psychotic break" that put me in "that place," though. Nor did I have one when my fears ended after the end did not occur. I'm not sure you should do anything other than express your concern, and provide support if she requests it. I don't know if she's "psychotic," as some have said, but she does sound as if she is in a delicate, excitable frame of mind.

43. Well, if she really believes this, then who does she think the...
Antichrist is? There has to be one for the Rapture to take place, according to Evangelical Christian beliefs. The only person that I can see acting like the Antichrist is B*, and my bet is that he is her hero. (At least that's my experience with Evangelical Christians.) If he's not the Antichrist, who does she think it is?

46. Ok...I got an e-mail from her today answering mine...
Here's one of the things she says:

"As a believer in Christ, I am instucted to never judge someone--in other words I am not judging you, I just want you to understand that secular scientists are proving the Bible almost on a daily basis and with that fact I compell you to open your eyes and to absorb and see the signs he said would occur."

Well...here we go! *$%@#&*^*%#@!!!!

Here's another:

"With the age of enlightenment and reason came a plethora of good ideas and knowledge. However, in conjunction with that, came a negative perception about the reality of GOD--a skewing of his existence and love. God has no political affiliation, he just yearns for moral and veracible people to be in charge."

Someone has obviously told her what to write back because this is not at ALL like her style.

OK...it's time to find out who the Anti-Christ is! I'll ask her who it is and let you know! This should be stunning!

her life is her church and her kids who she home schools. Just saw her last month for the first time in about 10 years and made the acquaintance of her 8 year old daughter. The kid can't read. My other cousin's kids (ages 7 and 9) who live in London had to help her read the menu at the restaurant we went to. Apparently, according to wingnut mom the kid doesn't like to do her schoolwork (imagine that!)
