Need some music help - Bands/Singers from New Orleans
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 07:56 AM by KyndCulture
I'm doing a radio broadcast later today and I decided to play only bands/acts/songs from people in the affected areas of New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta. Genre doesn't really matter.. it can be anything. If you know a good song by them that would be appropriate that would be a big help too!

Can you guys help me out?

1. here's a suggestion....

No Remorse ~

No mercy for what we are doing
No thought to even what we have done
We don’t need to feel the sorrow
No remorse for the helpless one

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Blood feeds the war machine
As it eats it’s way across the land
We don’t need the feel the sorrow
No remorse is the one command

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Only the strong survive
No one to save the weaker race
We are ready to kill all comers
Like a loaded gun right at your face

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Attack
Bullets are flying
People are dying
With madness surrounding all hell’s breaking loose
Soldiers are hounding
Bodies are mounting
Cannons are shouting to take their abuse
With war machines going
Blood starts to flowing
No mercy given to anyone hear
The furious fighting
Swords are like lighting
It all becomes frightening to you
Know death is near
No remorse

2. Louis Armstrong
How about "What A Wonderful World"? Perhaps sickly ironic under the circumstances, but perhaps that's appropriate...

But true to what was so special about NO... a love of live, an ability to see beauty and feel joy for it. A unique place and unique people.

Khash.

The music was of New Orleans is what I always think of... so unique! It truly represented the "melting pot" of America.

They have a song called "King of New Orleans" that kicks a lot of ass. They also put out a new album recently, "Before the Robots."

Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 10:53 AM by kwassa
If you know about the Mardi Gras Indian tradition, and they sing the traditional street songs of New Orleans.

"Iko Iko"

My grandma and your grandma
Were sittin' by the fire.
My grandma told your grandma
"I'm gonna set your flag on fire"

Hey now! Hey now!
Iko, Iko, unday
Jockamo feeno ai nan?
Jockamo fee nan?

Look at my king all dressed in red Iko, Iko, unday.
I betcha five dollars he'll kill you dead
Jockamo fee nan?

My flag boy and your flag boy
Were sittin' by the fire.
My flag boy told your flag boy
"I'm gonna set your flag on fire"

See that guy all dressed in green ?
Iko Iko unday
He's not a man He's a lovin' machine.
Jockamo fee nan?

15. Here is a great compilation list
Artists and songs from many genres

Hope you have a good music library.

Chuck Taggart used to run a great Lousiana music show in Los Angeles, which actually had the largest population of expatriate Louisianans.

17. The Neville Brothers
They are my favorite N.O. band. Aaron Neville sings like an angel, although the other brothers share vocal duties. All multi-instrumentally talented...

Find copies of "Fiyo On The Bayou" or "Yellow Moon". Great albums.

Great suggestions and yes my music library is pretty extensive I just wasn't exactly sure what would be best. Keep em coming though.

One song I desperately want to play but don't have and am looking for is Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans - Louis Armstrong.
