FUBAR or my experience at the Red Cross office today
I went to try to volunteer as we are also getting some of the folks from the gulf states here. I'm a nurse so I expected I would be needed. It was a mess there. Hundreds of people were trying to volunteer (yay, humans!) but when I told them I was a nurse, they had me go to a special place to talk to a specific person. Specific person never materialized though three more nurses trying to volunteer did. We had 10 different people tell us eleven different stories and we finally left our paperwork there with their promise that they would call us.

I'm not holding my breath. It was a zoo there and information was not flowing well at all. It appears that they are completely overwhelmed and that's in Austin, hundreds of miles away from ground zero.

I'm going out to Crawford tomorrow to help with the clean up and then I'll try Red Cross again on Monday or Tuesday.

1. No organization or leadership.
If there was a system to keep things running smoothly, then I'm sure that people and even businesses (or better yet the government) could handle the supply side.
