How do you react when someone says "I voted for Bush, but now I regret it"
I've heard that a few times since November, and once since Katrina.

I always tell them that I have no sympathy for them, that they have blood on their hands. And I tell them to shut the fuck up before I get even more mad. Then I call them dumb motherfucking idiots.

I'm much more sympathetic to those who voted for the shrub in 2000 but then got smart in 2004.

1. Harsh, dude!
I'd extol the virtues of the Democrats and tell them they need to atone for their sins by voting Dem for a looooong time in the future.

2. Mixed feelings.
On the one hand, I sort of want to rub it in. It depends on the level of freepishness, but some Bush supporters were so smug about "moral superiority" and that kind of garbage.

On the other, we're all suffering because of their stupidity.

5. I'd LOVE to hear that. But I'm not. This country desperately needs
to get out from the grip of these people. If it means that some who were so dumb as to require this kind of calamity to wake up, wake up, then so be it.

I might curse them for inflicting shrubco on us, but I wouldn't do it to their face. I'd be all, "Welcome to reality."

Instead, I'm seeing mostly people who are so deluded that even WITH a calamity like this, they still want to believe anything else than their hero is a worthless idiot.

8. Someone said that to me today.
I was with an older man today waiting in line and watching the FOX the employees left on for us ( :grr: ). He was moving around a lot and making a lot of hmmphs under his breath. When one of the guests on FOX said "This is not the president's fault", he said very loudly "YES IT IS! IT IS BUSH'S FAULT."

He said a lot of the things we were saying, and I chimed in with the info about the Army Corp of Engineers, and he said "And Cheney's still on vacation..."

And then he said "I can't believe I voted for this guy. I voted for this guy and my wife wouldn't let me forget it. I'm so embarrassed that I voted for this guy."

He seemed very upset.

What can I say. I'm embarrassed he voted for Bush too.

11. I am fuming
Words cannot describe how pissed off I am right now. I had taken a break from DU because I was focusing on building a media business where I'm going to write articles and take photos for magazines and corporations.

I had placed my frustrations with the bush administration on hold after realizing that most people in this country are still asleep.

But this katrina thing pulled me back into DU. Katrina roared through Miami just over a week ago as a category one hurricane. She knocked down powerlines, traffic lights and trees. I was without power for five days.
And eleven people down here died.

And that was a much-weaker Katrina. (80 mph winds instead of 145 mph winds)

When Katrina started gaining power in the gulf of Mexico and headed for New Orleans, all of us in Miami knew disaster was looming. I was here for Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and it was hell -- but not nearly as bad as what is going on in New Orleans now.

Our government allowed those people to die and I am furious about it. And that is why when I hear someone say "I voted for bush but now I regret it", I want to just bash their head in.

35. Excellent suggestion - this can go some way towards
making amends, but the damage has largely been done. I don't think impeachment will ever happen, but at least if the Dems can get control of at least one House of Congress, then the hearings that would follow would trash *'s reputation and his "legacy".

At least...I haven't heard it from anyone who voted Bush in '04.

I am close to two people who voted Bush in 2000, deeply regretted it, and both voted Kerry in '04.

Edited to add that at least one of those two people believes strongly that Bush should be impeached.

24. Funny you should ask
I just came from the day at my best friend's house, and she is out for *'s blood. She voted for him, but she regrets the hell out of it now. I almost said something, but then she told me (STAUNCH rep.) that she will never vote for another rep. She's pissed about the way aid has been handled, and she suddenly has a much much clearer view of where the lines of poverty and race are drawn in the South. In short, she's had an epiphany, and I didn't want to rub it in. She also told me that the people she works with are really pissed at * too, and we live in a very * loving county.

30. I'm glad they're having their epiphany
But I still blame them for what is going on right now. And I have no problem letting them know how I feel.

One of the problems with the dems, I've noticed when I volunteered for Kerry last year, is that we rely too much on the "turn the other cheek" mentality. It's self-defeating because we're up against self-absorbed people who believe they are righteous.

I can forgive them for 2000, but there is no way in hell I will forgive them for voting for him in 2004.

Fuck them. There are too many dead people as a result of this administration to just blow it off and forgive those who voted for him.

I tell them to fuck off, and if they have a problem with that, we'll step it up a notch. I'm one angry democrat right now and I'm not afraid to speak my mind.

Your attitude is what I'm talking about. The soft ass liberal. It's time we take a page from their playbook and tell them, "you're either with us or against us."

If they want to leave the GOP and become democrat, that's great, but they better keep it to themselves because they're not going to get any sympathy -- or forgiveness -- from me.

Where were they when this country needed them the most back in November?
Voting for morals? For tax breaks? Voting for the shrub because he made them feel safer?

48. I'm afraid I'm more bitter
than anything. I essentially tell the person with some irony that they should have thought of that a year ago.

It's partly because people have been fooled. Rove and his spin machine were in full gear last year before the election, and John Kerry didn't fight back as much as he should have. If it weren't for the spin machine, there would have been no fucking way that the moron would have been put back in office.

Let's face it: this country is filled with gullible people, and if they paid attention and really cared, we wouldn't be in the fucking mess we're in now.

I say welcome anyone who wises up. I used to feel the same way you do, but then I realized it was hypocritical since I voted for the bastard in 2000.

We're going to need every person who wakes up. I'm trying to soften my heart a bit. It's pretty fucking hard when I look at what's happening in New Orleans, but I am still trying. I nearly vented my frustrations at my Bush-voting voice teacher, but decided that wouldn't help me or him.

54. That's my approach. Only now, the "welcome"
is a little less welcome than it used to be. Nod, smile, change the subject/walk away. Lecturing them about it is not my job. Nor is judging, really, I guess. I'm just happy some people ARE wising up--it SHOULD be possible.

55. It is, but we are getting down to the hard core * supporters, now.
The remaining folk will be harder to convince. I wish that they didn't need to hang onto their dogma, but some of them do. It's the only thing that gives their lives structure and to admit they are wrong might cause their whole world view to cave.

They should still follow the truth wherever it might lead. It's painful, but necessary.

56. I have friends like you
Who became the most vocal Kerry supporters. They are in the military and voted for bush in 2000 because they thought they were voting in their best interest.

And let's face it. Most of us knew he was an idiot before 2000. I don't think most of us knew he was a raging psychopath.

71. Fuck them
I'm not a soft-assed liberal. If they couldn't see the light before Nov. 2004, why should they see it now.

I'm goddamn sick and tired of the dems being pansies.

67. You're too nice...
for having sympathy for the ones who voted for shrub back in 2000. As far as I'm concerned anyone who ever voted for him for anything is an idiot.

They laughed and then sighed. I don't know if they have forgiven themselves, yet.

Maybe harsh, as some here have said, but seriously they need to hear it! They MUST be held accountable, right?

79. I just tell them that it's easy to be manipulated
When you rely on cable TV for facts. I tell them uninformed opinions "Has created a nation of destructive uninformed zombie voters" It's less directly personal, but gets the point across.

81. Where does that get me exactly?
A moment to voice my frustrations and let them know just how badly they fucked up.

I'm through with "recruitment" efforts. I maxed out on that during the months leading to the election.

You can be as soft and as forgiven and understanding as you'd like. We are the party of pansies, after all.

But it's going to be a long time before I will forgive anybody who voted for bush in 2004. A very long time.
