How are YOU dealing with your white hot rage? Here's what I did:
Thanks to our boy George and his stunning ineptitude, I have all kinds of pent up energy and steam to blow off.

First, I wrote a rant that my pal copied and posted on evil Friendster (which censored all my swears--the bastards). Then, I made a kick-ass mix cd, sang along to it at the top of my lungs, and in a few hours I'll be shaking my hinder to Canadian sensation Danko Jones, live and in person.

How are you dealing with your boiling rage?

2. Sending emails to small town churches
and local governments about abandoned houses that I know are in their area. I want to find out if the towns own them(abandonment, back taxes, etc). I am asking them if they would prefer them to stay abandoned or if they would prefer a tenant(poss. w/o rent for a while, but someone who might be able to do some simple work there like painting, cleaning, etc). The plan is to find out if the town (and we are talking about small towns who have drastically lost large amounts of their populations in the past 20 years or so d/t people moving to the city) would be interested in allowing evacuees to stay in the homes either for short or possibly long term (if long term, maybe help them also find employment somewhere and charge a token amount of rent at a later time).
The houses are abandoned. Why not use them? And the churches can have drives where the members go through their attics, closets, basements, etc to find old furniture and clothes so that everything would be ready for them.
I wrote an email about it to five small towns that I know have abandoned houses (nearly 250 houses in all), most I believe have been kept b/c of back taxes. And I'm passing it on to friends, hoping they will do the same thing.

5. Wow...
That's a great idea. I'm going to pass it along to a few friends. I'm sure there's going to be some goofy zoning/local laws or something that might make it tough, but it does not hurt to ask.

:patriot:

7. Not if they are used as single residence.
No zoning laws broken. Just old houses that need some TLC and the laughter of children.
And write LTTEs in area papers about it. Find the houses and identify by address. People will read it, drive by them and wonder why they couldn't be used. It will get your point across when city hall gets phone calls about it.

4. My remedy was being extra-nice to people.
And it worked; I got free eyeliner at the grocery store today. No, really free. Some nice associate hooked me up. ??

I've also treated myself to a rare CD of Celtic music I've wanted for a while that magically showed up in Borders the other day.

I've been using a stress-relief tonic.

And crying inside. Oh, the crying.

Well, there's also the donation to the RC. It's important.

simple things like just being nice can be so helpful for both others and you.

I'm with you on the crying too. We'll all get through this, somehow.

6. I had my first and last communication with a distant cousin today.
he replied all to an email my aunt sent (the Michael Moore open letter) with some cockamamie Moore-is-a-"fat-sack-of-crap"-so-we-should-blame-for-being-a-blamer nonsense so I blasted back pretty ferociously.

Most of the people on the list know that I've been having a rough year (Social Security determined my relapse into Schizo-Affective disorder started on November 3rd, the day after my last job with the Wolfe for Congress campaign ended), but I don't think he does.

fuck him, fuck them all

they have done nothing but torture my aunt (the one who sent the moore email) since she moved back to america 10 years ago

she's different, and so am I cuz I never lived in Minnesota either

and you know what we do to people who are different around here

11. Oh man...
We're going through something similar in our house too. A conservative relative is giving us the talking points already--it would be unbelievable if it weren't so predictable.
Got the "don't politicize this...it's the local cops/mayor's fault...you can't blame the president..." email today that contained that and much more puke inducing crap that I just don't have patience for anymore.

I'm sorry you're having a rough year. I'll keep you in my thoughts, for what it's worth, because that's what we do to people who are different in our house.

18. thanks
I cracked up at the last part.

sorry for your trouble

it's insane how they always say we're the ones who are politicizing everything just so they won't hear anything besides their side of the political bullshit

I have no interest in going to Minnesota anymore. I have no interest in doing anything. I'm fucking terrified to go to the store. Everything anyone does inevitably pisses me off.

But I spent the afternoon with a friend who is so loyal to me I don't deserve her, we went to visit my father's ashes about an hour away. It was awesome. We talked about so many things that have been hanging there for over 10 years - like the possibility of a relationship. She says I am just too annoying to live with, but "we love you anyway" - but I don't know who "we" is anymore, the only one around anymore is her. Praise the Lord for that.

Anyone using the term "fat sack of crap" as the basis for their "argument"? Does not deserve civility or niceness from anyone.

for friends on and off DU to rant with.

On an unrelated note, have you heard that The Boondocks has been made into a cartoon? I think it's on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim in October. Looks like it will be good.

30. Oh what, they're ascared of a great show by black creators?
Yeah, I do believe they rejected it, but screw them anyway.
If they had picked it up it would have gotten lukewarm promotion/support and would have fallen to the wayside.

I think Adult Swim will be a great home for the show as it's run by people who actually respect the work of the artists--or at least they seem to.

I can't wait to see it.

15. Had a major bitch session
With some non-political folks I know over coffee (Asking "What's the sigificance of the Downing Street Memo's again?)I didn't even start the conversation, because I get too passionate, these are gentle people most of whom didn't vote for *, of the ones who bothered to vote (none will admit it in front of me anyway) but that's the extent of their political involvment. But they all were listening, and talking and horrified. Asking questions, wanting answers. General consensus: * is a an incompetent POS. Me and another friend finally got the point across to these folks what political apathy really means. It was a good day. Too bad it has to take a tragedy for people to pull their head out of their asses.

rage.

alternating with just being stunned and shellshocked.

made a little donation at my credit union today (all the credit unions in Texas are collection under the Texas Association of Credit Unions umbrella)

will give something at church tomorrow too.

OH I imagine our church will be pretty full in the morning, even for the early services. My minister went to college at Centenary in Shreveport, and I know he will have things to say.

Our church is already gearing up for a trip to the area as soon as rebuilding can start, to help with that.
