I hate to be callouse.....
But if you itemize deductions on your Federal Schedule A....

Do not toss money into boots, or cans shoved at you at a ball game, or any other thing that these corporations or organizations are doing to collect money, a good thing, while grabbing a chunk of free publicity too...

Write a bigger check directly to the organization of your choice....

Now my Mother In Law wants to make a donation. she doesn't Itemize. So I am taking her to sears to double her contribution.....

Believe you me, Sears takes the deduction and gets a feel good ad campaign out of it....

Nothing wrong with that....

But If you do itemize, keep your money in your wallet and write that check...

BTW, I don't only play a tax adviser on the web, I do taxes for a living...

4. Oh, I didn't know that!
Joani, are you _really_ an aromatherapist? If so, I'm searching for an oil by "Young Living" called "Moonsage" or something similar. Familiar?

6. Heidi !
Yes, I really am an aromatherapist and have been for several years ...

Young Living does not have a 'moonsage' ... however if you can tell me exactly what it was used for ... I will be more than happy to research your options and offer suggestions. I am a Young Living distributor.

You may ask me here or if you feel more comfortable you can send a PM.

2. You can also deduct your costs incurred while volunteering
You have to provide good documentation, but you can do it. Not for political causes, though.

5. We do itemize, and I do keep my receipts from donations.
That doesn't stop me from parting with cash once in a while for a good cause, though.

7. I understand that....
Just don't go over board and put 100 bucks in the boot...

Rich folks don't....

It's just good financial planning...

Do what you feel is right, though... That is what seperates usfrom the republicans
