Help with accessing home wireless network
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 04:40 PM by ikojo
I have posted this in the computer help and Mac forums. The traffic isn't as high there as it is here...so I am posting it here as well.

Thanks for your help loungies!!!

I have a 12 inch Mac powerbook 867 mhz and my room mate has a Dell (gack) desktop PC.

We have cable Internet through Charter.net

I am using a linksys broadband router 2.4 ghz

I have successfully installed everything onto the Dell PC.

My Mac's airport can detect the network but when I put in what I thought was the password I assigned, it comes up wrong.

Is there something else I need to do on the Mac?

On edit: I have successfully gone into the linksys site and verified that I am using the password in my Mac that I assigned to the network.

So, the question remains...is there anything I need to do on the Mac or the linksys to allow access by both Macs and PCs?
Thanks!

1. Go to your Airport Admin utility
There is a WEP password for PCs to join your network. Macs can come in on the password you created. If you poke around a bit it will tell you what it is. 28 characters if I remember correctly. You can elect to have an open network with no WEP password, but I wouldn't recommend that.

2. Thanks NV Whino...but even when I made it an open network
the Mac's airport card was able to see the network and it looked like it was active but I could not bring up any websites.
