2. Comsat Angels, The Sound, The Chameleons

all obscure (if talented) UK bands from the 80s who went largely unnoticed in their time.

5. The Comsat Angels sound a bit like them

The first three 'Sats LPs are being reissued (again)-- they're well worth tracking down: www.comsatangels.net. They were also an influence on the Chameleons, as well as U2, believe it or not.

the Sound are a bit edgier, and once shared a label with Echo & The Bunnymen in the early 80s.

So I'll say...

CRASS!

I am fascinated by them. I think they are one of the most brilliant and underrated punk bands, definitely. And I never hear mention of them on any of the punk documentaries or in any of those ubiquitous "Greatest _____" Lists you see in Rolling Stone or Spin or whatever. But I think they are probably one of the most influential punk bands ever. Or am I wrong??? Maybe nobody really likes them and I am just a dork. :P

Underrated bands:

Chicago (true, Kath's death was a true jump-the-shark moment)

Isley Brothers (besides their longevity, the heavy-metal aspect of
their funk, courtesy of Brother Ernie, never seemed to get its props)
