As she proclaimed that "no one had told me that any aid - that anyone offering aid had a problem - and I would have heard of that if that was the case, so it did not happen"
I was reminded of my first car, a hand me down, a rusting, shaky 4 cylinder Valiant, with the push button transmission, as the oil needed as much replacement as gas.
I would take out this snakey, bent strip and check the level to see how much I needed to add.
And there it is

a thin, wiry, metalic, oily and not very accurate, gauge of oil levels - and always making one think that the problems are greater than I want to recognize. My dipstick - Condi Rice. (It even had a gap at the end - just like her teeth)
