An ode to the nameless songbird that was killed today by Evita
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 08:52 PM by LynneSin
Songbird songbird
Your chirp so bright
I'm really sorry
my cat snuffed out your light

You came to this earth
to sing your chirpy song
Getting near my window sill
was all you ever had done wrong

I love to hear your
cheerful chirp so clear
But unfortunately
my cat's paw got near

I never really thought
she ever really could
kill a songbird from
inside my window wood

But now buried deep within
my garbage bucket
is part of your body and
you head decapited

So to you the the sweet
beloved nameless songbird
I'm really really sorry
my indoor cat is so weird

Well, I liked it anyway.

Now I'm going to read some poetry at you. Stand back.

The Pointy Birds... by Steve Martin
Pointy birds,
Pointy, pointy.
Anoint my head,
Anointy, nointy.

Go here for the full effect.

4. Scare the birds away before they get too close
I read the other day that robins have a penchant for flying toward windows. That reminded me of a time, years ago, that a robin kept flying up to my bedroom window. It darted up to the top of the window, almost under the eaves, so I thought perhaps it was trying to eat a fly caught in a spider web. When it kept doing this for a few days, I was afraid it might hurt itself so I cut a large cat face from an empty kitty-litter bag and taped it face-out in the window. The bird steered clear forever after!

5. LynneSin ... I liked your poem.
I'm just as sorry as you about the demise of the little birdie ... but ... that is the way of nature.

BTW ... I doubt that you were feeding the birds on your windowsill
