Lots of firewood this winter?
Mr. July and I are discussing the value of buying more firewood than we usually do. He thinks it won't make any difference with our heating bills; I'm not sure and figure he could be right when I factor in the added cost if we buy a lot of wood.

On the other hand, if heating the house becomes significantly more expensive, we may have to keep the temp uncomfortably low and then will want a fire some of the time.

So, I'm looking for opinions. Maybe I'm being dense (and I haven't done the math, either), but I can't come to my typically quick decision about this.

1. You might want to check Craigslist
I always find free or cheap wood there. It might take some work to cut to your preferred length but we find that it helps with the heating in the winter that's for sure!

2. You want some wood? George W. has some wood!
Sorry not helpful. Plenty wood free for the hauling in my neighborhood.

3. I always tell my wife we'll buy a bunch in summer when it's cheap
But we never do, and I end up paying top price in winter. A fire is totally a luxury here though, and we could completely do without if we had to, but it does save some money on heating in cold years.
