So... I switched from cable to DirecTv today and..
I would never get cable again. The picture quality is a hell of a lot better with the dish. I am getting twice as many channels for less than I was paying with cable. I know there are times when it drops out because of weather, but that happened a few times with the cable too.

I am just giddy because it's like a new toy. :)

1. I LOVE Dish TV
Hated hated hated cable...but I chose Dish because I'm not keen on Direct-tv's politics, and I simply had to have FSTV and Link..When I signed up, DirectTV only had one of them I think ..

We have nEVER had interference .outages on dish..

2. I have Link, but I don't know what it is
I don't know about FSTV. I don't know about the politics, but my neighbor had Dish TV and had some problems, but it might just be location. That's why I went with this, but I have nothing against Dish.

7. Oh, okay
I remember hearing about it on here. And I checked, DirecTv doesn't have FSTV.
I'll check out Link though, thanks. :hi:

3. I loved DirecTV
When I moved into my new house, I couldn't get satellite because I didn't have a clear line of sight. Too many big trees in the neighborhood.

5. I'm lucky
I live on a hill and have a direct sight to the source. I just can't get over the difference of the picture.

6. we have DirectTv with Tivo...
and boy oh boy...we wonder how in hell we ever lived without it...

We have NEVER had a problem with transmissions, BTW...

But the part we love the best is the pre-programming that is possible with the TiVO...

It spoils you for anything else...

8. Tivo is one of those things I wonder how I ever did without
like the internet, I seem to recall I didn't have it at one point and was happy enough, but I have no desire to try living without it again.

25. some advice
i also have DISH and it was doing that to me too. i called them a few times about it and they finally replaced the eye on the dish. i haven't had any problems since, even in inclement weather. they also relocated the dish (a big tree was in the way before).

maybe that would help.

12. I've been thinking about switching from cable...
to DirecTV, but I can't do without my high speed internet! Comcast has the fastest broadband connection! I don't think DirecTV has internet capability does it?

15. They have a subsidiary
called DirecWay, but it requires some expensive hardware. We just installed DirecWay this week, but only because we have no access to cable or DSL.

At our old house, we kept Comcast cable internet when we switched to DirecTV.

14. I hated DirectTV AND Comcast.
... mostly because DirectTV's service (on the ground and on the phone) was HORRIBLE ! The dude they contracted to install my system didn't know shit and punched holes in my screens to run the cable thru rather than drilling a small hole in the wall ... so I couldn't completely close my patio door or my bedroom window, which was real nice when it rained or snowed.

And of course closing and opening windows as far as possible to keep the weather out caused the cables to fray, which DirectTV would not repair. 'Scuse me ??

Any time I had to call their 800# (which seemed like weekly because of the incompetent idiot) ... I sat on hold for at least a half hour.

GRRR.

RE: Comcast ... I refuse to subscribe because of the hidden fees and ridiculous prices. Simply refuse. Everytime you turn around your rates are going up, with no increase in service and no explanation from them. Bastards.

So I've been 'local programming only' for almost 2 years ... contemplating giving Dish Network a try.

18. Wow... what the hell is that about? Through a screen?
The guy I had was pretty cool. He gave me choices on different ways to do some things and he did a great job. Of course I followed him through the whole thing so I don't know what he would have done if I wasn't standing there.

As for being on the phone forever, that seems to be a trend these days among all the friggin' companies. I have noticed them all starting to really suck with customer service. Don't even get me started on SBC, they are one of the most unprofessional bunch of idiots that I have ever dealt with. They are my phone/DSL company and the one woman told me that maybe I should maybe get a new provider because of all the mistakes they made with my account. :wtf:

It has to be a big cell directly between me and the satellite.

17. We were getting constant calls
from the satellite networks, like 5 or 6 per day. Stopped when I told one of them to "Cheney" off. Hubby was interested in sat but the program package that corresponded to our cable bill didn't have the channels that we watch most, would have to spend 20-30 bucks more per month to get what we wanted.

21. No
I wanted to, but it's like $15 extra a month after all is said and done and I just don't want to put that in my budget as of yet. This IS the bush economy after all.
I think I might get it a bit later on. One cool thing is that my caller ID shows up on my tv now..LOL. Just one more step in making me lazier and lazier.
