Okay, Jessica and Nick singing America
in tribute to those who fell on 9-11-01 before the start of a football game is just plain wrong....

I know there is a fan or two of Jessica and Nick on this Web Site, but please, the cheapened the memorial....

What happened to a moment of silence...

Why do we feel we must resort cheap spectacles in order to recognize tragedy...

And, to top it of, Jessica sings and moves a lot like Hoe Cocker....

I'm just saying.....

1. GAWD, was that wretched or what?
I had to leave the room; even my fairly cool, calm collected hubby was tense--that almost never happens.

2. I was pretty disgusted too
It was beyond cheesy.

I really don't understand why we are celebrating death today. That's what it boils down to. The silly march follies in D.C. is just way over the top, especially following another tragedy in the past few weeks.

This should be a somber, low-key day of rememberance. I think that would be tasteful.

It's an anniversary now?

from nfl.com

NFL to recognize fourth anniversary of Sept. 11

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2005) -- The NFL will remember the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 and salute the spirit of America with a special nationally televised live tribute prior to the start of the nine 1 p.m. ET regular-season opening games on Sunday, Sept. 11.

"America the Beautiful" will be performed by Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey from FedEx Field in Landover, Md. at 12:58 p.m. ET, prior to the Chicago Bears-Washington Redskins game. Their performance will be televised nationally by CBS and FOX and also be seen by fans on in-stadium video screens at the other game sites.

This national salute will be followed in each of the nine stadiums with the playing of the national anthem as part of special on-field activities.

Details of local club tributes that day will be announced shortly.

6. I was thinking to myself
Okay, it's not so bad. If they want to sing that's cool with me. As soon as Jessica started her squirmin', I just cringed. She is embarrassing to watch. She looks like a worm that you just put on a hook. Her voice is okay, but lordy she needs to stop with that ..... whatever it is.

As for the "tributes", I don't mind them anymore. I guess I am used to that schlock.

11. True but
I don't get all warm inside for the U.S. Government. I think that the victims of both 9/11 and Katrina had little choice in it all.

12. Yes, but, it's not about the victims, is it. It's about the excuse to
send our troops to war. Did they have a F-16 flyover complete with the fallen airman routine of one dropping off to the side as a finisher?

13. No, just the flag
It really wasn't "over the top". Hell, I'm a cynic too but I just don't really care either way when they do something like that. I also feel that there are a hell of a lot more people today compared to 2001 that are thinking what you are saying. I think that's why they didn't go overboard on that opening song.
